There's a mistake here actually, you can only get an extra 12 dice by paying extra nuyen for the item as mentioned on page 418 in the core rulebook. It's not up to 400% extra of the cost, it's 400% of the original cost, so x4 of original item cost not x5, and thus only 12 extra dice.

going tbh, IMO this seems like the kind of rule one shouldn't enforce often or really at all, unless you want/have a plot around a rival weapons dealer starting to act up against other weapons dealer or something to do with Knight Errant, if that's the plan tough it's actually an amazing way to introduce the plot tread, if they Glitch or Critically Glitch they get to experience the plot for themselves

Are spell formulae included in this system? What about teachers? Just trying to get an idea on black market magic.

Spell formula are covered on pg 461 of SR5...Teachers are a little bit trickier...They charge their instruction skill x spell formula cost. But availability isn't really touched upon, In a black market sense most magic is Restricted, with specific types of magic probably being Forbidden depending on what the local authorities thinks of a given spell. But an availability number isn't really touched on anywhere... Run faster pg 254 list highly skilled labor as having availability 8, so magic tutoring would typically be 8R. That said, finding a teacher might be something a Talismonger contact should handle.

I have been watching these vids over and over again and been reading the section in the book a couple of times. I really dont understand ”gamewise” whats the difference between illegal gear and legal. Lets say a PC wants to buy a product with avail 11R and has a license and sin, can she just buy it in the local armsdealer? Without the need to beat the opposed test?

Migge Sandgren Technically, if there is a number listed in the item's availability, then you always have to roll to see if you can find it. The number represents how "rare" or hard to find the item is. The problem is that the book does not make it clear what you are supposed to roll if the item is NOT Restricted or Forbidden (has the R or F on the avail rating). What IS clear is that if there us an R or F in the availability, then you DEFINITELY have to make that opposed roll of your Negotiation + CHA vs the item's availability rating. Hope that helps!

I consider it a flaw in the system that the negotiation skill is used to determine if something can be found. It should be based on a logic skill, and negotiation to haggle over the price.

You are haggling over the speed of delivery, that's why you are opposed by "availability." Price is a factor only if you want it faster than you could negotiate for.

Opposite sides always equal 7, so your dice showing a 5 (front) and a 2 (top) is dovetailed or just wrong since the 5 and 2 have to be opposite of each other ;)

Given that people can practically take pictures with their eyes, probably scan fingerprints, connect with their allies near instantlyand a use AI to stitch information together, shouldn't finding a criminal and known associates be pretty easy even with Deckers trying to cover for you?

Technically but due to the point of runners no one ACTUALLY wants to catch and/or kill a shadowrunner. depending on the runner they can and will make the wallet hurt or, more importantly, ruin relations with the public they go through all the pains of insuring that the populace doesn't see the true power Corps wield. That said, if the corporate entity is powerful enough, and more importantly angry enough, they can and will find you and they'll keep trying til they snag you. Until you or someone else gives something better to offer.

Something that has been bugging me on this topic is that by all accounts there is nothing stopping someone from using edge on a search check. Thus a decent face with even a little edge ( which would be replenished by the time it takes for an item to be delivered) could easily acquire delta grade items and the like. Aside from making a house rule is there something else I am missing?

blightcraftgamma Players are not guarantees thr usr of Edge on rolls. The GM is supposed to have to approve it's use. You could always disallow it.

Disallowing it is looking like my only option as that the book says in a rather blanket statement that edge can be used on any test or action. I just feel heavy handed negating something from the book.
