I've been waiting for an explanation on this for a very very.... very long time. Thank you so much man.

this is why i make maglocks only 1 test, i never met a player (or gm for that matter) who said the stranded maglock rules are good or fun to play, words I hear from people are tedious, boring and over complicated shadowrun is a fun game but they need to slimline it

I felt like it got a bit too much into a rapid pace right around when it got to that evil two-person Hardware and Locksmith double-test for the chipped circuit-completing key, and it was too hard to properly absorb each of the separate bits of information before the next two bits were already being said. This section didn't integrate on the first watch, so I had to re-watch the part about having to do both tests at the same time (and mentally wonder if they had to complete/start/just partially overlap) a couple times even though this is something I already learned a year ago (but forgot).

DaFranker Yeah, that part of the script probably could have been lengthened a bit to give a clearer understanding of what was being said. Thanks for the feedback!

Yeah, SR is getting to the point you need three separate rolls to change a car tire
@DaFranker7 жыл бұрын
Hardware (Vehicles spec applicable) to identify the type of tires required, Negotiation to find a buy one, Computer (Matrix Search spec) to find a schematic for the modification or repair, Pilot Groundcraft to bring your vehicle to the Automotive Engineering Shop / Facility, and finally Automotive Engineering extended test to put on the tire. Rules as written, too! =D

DaFranker Nooooooo hahahahahaha

it would not be hardware for the tires , but it would be for the myriad number of electronic systems in even a modern car.

Where did these rules come from? The SR5 Errata actually says Lockpicking is not a skill... I completely agree that regular physical not-matrix locks should exist, I mean come on right? But are there any published rules or would this be considered house?
@ComplexAction7 жыл бұрын
OnceAndFuture Gamer lockpicking is not a skill. the Errata is stating that there is no specific lockpick skill. the reason that Errata exists is because it was a skill in 4th edition. some of the character archetypes were copied over and the Word lock-picking was left in. these rules about bypassing locks come from the game master section of the core rulebook. unfortunately I don't have a page number because I don't have my book handy.
@onceandfuturegamer37637 жыл бұрын
Oh I found the problem. Yeah Lockpicking is not a skill and only shows up under the sample characters. Locksmith on the other hand is the skill referenced in the GM section you mention. That's under technical skills. I was looking under physical skills. Thanks for the pointer!

Do you still need a lockpick set if you have an autopicker?
@AWZool4 жыл бұрын
That would be utterly stupid.

@@AWZool Not if a critical fail on the autopicker results in a broken picker...
@AWZool3 жыл бұрын
@@whiskeyfur Well, I have a hard time imagining what would break the actual autopicker. As for the head, you should have your replacements right in the bag with the picker. Lockpicks sure break sometimes, but it's not as common as in videogames..
@whiskeyfur3 жыл бұрын
@@AWZool all good points. I have seen trapped locks that would react badly on getting picked, in that since it's not a solid key that is being inserted.. well, it's up to the locksmith's imagination on what happens then. In this case since not all of the pins were being depressed, the lock would never turn. 5 pins on top, 3-4 on the sides that don't need dimples on the key itself.. just a quick feel check to make sure it's a solid piece of metal of the right width. With SR5... Imagine a key with a QR code imprinted on one side. Why is it there? It's so the micro camera in that lock doesn't trigger something really nasty because you used the wrong key. But, those are on the level of plot devices, and not by far the normal.
@AWZool3 жыл бұрын
@@whiskeyfur I don't think mechanical locks would be used under normal conditions anywhere since they are pretty easy to defeat (see LPL channel..). Maglocks, computer controlled, RFID, biometric locks etc. Mechanical locks should only used as fallback (eg what currently see on electronic safes, and they usually have pretty shitty ones) or places with high corrosion / no power or computer acces, eg a sewer grate. Exactly because of this, I see no point in a QR code on a mechanical key. The key part does not really contribute to the security of the system (I know that the game mechanics and the overall handling of maglocks game mechanic wise does not push through this idea well)

These rules seem unnecessarily complicated to open a door.... as a game master i will simplify this test significantly.
@cardboardbox1917 жыл бұрын
Couldn't you smash the door in instead. I realize you'd lose points for subtlety. i'm just wondering if you could.

Dave Brown Definitely still drawn by me. I switched to thicker markers on purpose. they give me a smoother line and also force me to make my images less Complex and more minimalist.
