Very cool finds! A (full) Sovereign was the first gold coin I ever bought. The Dukat has it's roots in medieval Europe and is still minted as a bullion coin by the Austrian mint (all new issues are dated 1915). For centuries the Dukat has maintained its weigh (3.49 grams) and fineness (.986), while other gold coins like the Gulden and the Zecchino got degraded over the centuries.

6.25 grams per quarter. X64=400grams x~$1/g= ~$400. So he paid silver weight at ~$31/toz

Converting paper into metal is only worth it if the paper price is less than the metal price. Eventually, you will have to reconvert that metal into paper, because nobody accepts metal as a currency. Those 64 US quarters contain about 360 grams of Silver. That's currently worth about $352. You paid $400. You will probably pay another $20 to convert them to .999 silver. Silver is still $38 down from it's recent high in 2011. That value of $68/oz was down from the all time high of $145/oz in 1980. The expected long term value is $20/oz.

Gold and silver are for saving. Currency is for spending.
@someguy-k2h3 сағат бұрын
@@sreetips You have said this before, and I know you believe that between now and your re-conversion of metal into paper, you will make value on appreciation of this asset. If you overpay for the asset, it will take MUCH longer to recuperate your investment. If you bought silver in April 2011 at $68/oz, your investment is now upside down. If you bought in Jan. 1980 at $145/oz, you will most likely never live long enough to see any return. Metal isn't magic. It's exactly the same as any real asset whose value fluctuates. It's a bet you are making.

@@someguy-k2hYou're correct about the high silver spot price, and how if you buy silver when it's valued high, you will have a long wait to sell and make a profit, after the high spot price dips. Because he makes money from KZbin, his profit equation is: (purified silver + KZbin video payments) - (scrap silver + chemicals cost). That means he can turn a profit, even buying at high spot price. Also this is fun for him, and we all love his KZbin videos. Sharing his videos gives him the ability to profit, even when the metal spot price is high.

How much after it's all melted down and sorted into its gold and silver would it be worth? I assume it'll be worth more than what you bought it for minus the costs of your time and electricity and acid and whatever else you put into it. Love your videos, look forward to every video. Cheers Wish I could show you our big chunks of silver and gold bars, they weigh 120 kg each and have to be sent to the Perth Mint for further processing.

Is it allowed to extract silver from these coins? In some countries it is forbidden to destroy the money, because it belongs to the issuing bank.
@sreetips2 сағат бұрын
I remember thinking it was a crime to destroy currency. I wouldn’t recommend extracting the silver from the coins. They contain a known quantity of silver minted by the government. They should be held just like they are.

I don't think you did well on the Sovereign. At 7.323 grams The Sovereign is made of 22 karat gold, consisting of 11/12 gold and 1/12 copper, giving a gold content of 0.9167. The coin has a standard weight of 7.98805 grams and given that the fineness is 0.9167, the gold content is 7.323 grams or 0.2354 (Troy) ounces. So you have 1/2 a sovereign or .1177 troy oz, 1/10th of an ounce is $267. Good work passing on the E.P.N.S. = ElectroPlated Nickel Silver = nothing. Sterling forks and spoons are the best, IMO, if priced right.
