I make a car payment every two weeks, without fail, to myself. I'm constantly saving for the next vehicle. You never know when you might have an accident and need a new car overnight, or when a major mechanical bill will make it more desirable to simply move on from your current ride. And the good news is, if you end up with more money in that fund than you need you can always just rebalance it to some other goal. If you're already conditioned to make car payments then don't stop. Just pay yourself and not the bank.

Well, it is irritating when you ask a person you are trying to help a clear and simple question and they don't answer it. The customer isn't always right and since it is his own show, he can behave any way he'd like on it, mad respect for that. However, we should all work a little harder at being nice. Also, he seemed put off from the very beginning, I wonder if there is something he knows about "buying titles" that we don't. Is it shady or something?

No one was rude nor dumb. Was a simple miscommunication on Ramsey's end. Even if she was married that doesn't mean they share a joint bank account. His gerneral use of house hold income is too ambiguous and caused the confusion. A more precise question would have been: How much would you spend on the car and how much can you save up for it per month/year? Her annual income is irrelevant.

Saving for a $15,000 car over ten years $15,000 / (12*10) = $125 a month. That's without investing it. I'm a bit rusty on my finance math. However, I think the future value of an annuity (in this case a month-nuity) at 8% annual returns, would mean putting in about $81.50 monthly. Also, I'm always extremely wary of buying a salvage title car; it may be cheaper and look new, but you don't know the structural damage. That and 15k will buy a lot of used car with a clean title.

Pay cash for a depreciating asset? Use the banks money to buy a car and put your cash into a cash flowing investment that generates enough to pay for your car note. Once your cash flowing asset pays off your car (you said your car has 10 years) keep driving the car and put the asset earnings into an account to pay for your next car cash. Learn how to responsibly use credit and leverage your current cash. (I'm not a lisenced money manager, just a guy who learned how to utilize the system to my benefit)

My biggest concern is the way you speak to people, you can come off rude and condescending at times. It is scary being out in the open (vulnerable) sharing their income and their situation to a nationwide audience, just to get scolded like that. Please show them some grace.

Same thing happened to me. My parents bought me a gorgeous shiny Metallic Ruby Red Lexus Grand Sport 350 series for my graduation gift. With a clean record. A year later, the frame and suspension was corroding. Apparently, the once beautiful car was salt water submerged in Hurricane Harvey.... And it was title wiped. We sold it for parts to a Lexus parts warehouse, for half of what we paid, and never looked back. Best decision I have ever made. It was a gorgeous death trap.

@Dave Ramsey I know this video is 7 years old but with current prices on the used car market this subject is more relevant that ever. I have the opportunity to buy a rebuilt title 2019 Genesis G90 for $22.5k in cash. The current clean title market price with similar mileage (38k miles) is going for ~$40k. I've seen pictures pre accident and the airbags did not go off and the damage was limited to the front bumper and crumple zone. I've drive the vehicle and it rode perfectly with no warning sensors. The dealer also paid for a 3rd party inspection call blue star which passed with 5.0 stars and the state also inspected it and certified it as rebuilt title. Is this something to consider or should I just look at older used vehicles with clean title?

salvage cars in great. if they've been repaired properly. those ball joints aren't. where they are supposed to be though, it's just a Big Money Pit. my best advice is find the point of impact. Draw straight line through the car. And that's everything that needs to be replaced. If it hasn't, then you will be replacing. and I don't give a shit what a Salesman says, if the bumpers are not straight it's got frame damage. just because he can't see it doesn't mean it's not there. One of the key parts of a vehicle inspection, is bending over and looking under the car. if it doesn't look right, it's not.

Ive boughten two cars in the area she is talking about. Both salvage. IMO Pros: salvage titles in California need to pass vigorious safety test(brakes and smog) ALOT cheaper No major issues. CONS: you potentialy are taking a gamble. If you are not mechanically inclined or have ones in your house that are not, then you may pay big when maintenance is due or things go out. Never buy a car with cash… NEVER… you will get the worst deal… instead finance then when you get home call the bank and get a payoff amount. Dealerships think they are making more money of the finance due to incentive they get from the banks for securing loan for them. They are more inclined to give you a better deal up front thinking they are going to ear more on the back end. You will get credit for paying off loan quickly (same as cash) but get a good deal as a finance car.
