Correct - There was no live coverage of the landing, only audio so all of the studios created animations which the annotated with big letters saying "SIMULATION". The footage of the landing was then shown later once recovered from the cameras. It really is not hard to find these things out. Unless you are a conspiracy drone of course and then you just won't bother looking up the facts.

@@moonrock5324 the original tapes recorded in Australia where the transmissions for the video was directly received from the moon for distribution to the rest of the world, were rewritten decades ago (sadly that was common practice back then, to reuse tapes). However, there are originals of the transmissions from other places around the world as it was beamed from Australia to those places, whom then relayed the video to Houston. As far as the voice and data telemetry (you know, the stuff you didn't see on TV, that data is mostly still in existence. You're also forgetting that there is independent data from 1969 from other observatories around the world. Satellite receivers around the world tracked the flight in places like Spain, The UK, Australia itself, the Soviet, etc.

No, dewdrop. Aldrin correctly pointed out that nobody saw the landings happen live, because there was no live TV during the landing. So, broadcasters made cartoonish animations to show the audience what was happening. Live TV wasn't available during the landing, because it was recorded on 16mm film. The live TV wasn't until they were on the surface for a few hours.

What I said is this: the landing itself, that is, the part from breaking the Moons' orbit to the touchdown, has not been broadcast live in the visual form. All we could get was audio. We didn't get to see the landing footage (shot from inside the Lunar Module with a film camera) until _Apollo_ 11 crew came back. So, in order to make that audio broadcast more interesting, several TV stations have made animations to show the audience what is happening at any given time during the landing. This is what Buzz Aldrin was talking about. Those animations were clearly labelled as such. The TV camera that _Apollo_ 11 crew had has only been turned on before Neil Armstrong has started going down the ladder, finally giving the audience the actual live footage from the surface of the Moon.

No... I wondered about this clip until I watched the whole interview. Read thru other comments. It's explained that it was recreated for the audience and they started filming when they landed. Nothing was live. We saw actual footage when they got back when the film was processed. Makes more sense now. And also if you keep listening Buzz clearly keeps talking about landing on the moon. Are you intentionally misunderstanding this obvious thing? C'mon. Get real here. Does that silly version make any sense whatsoever? Dewdrop, Conan said his family watched the landing live on TV. Aldrin corrected him, and said that his family couldn't have watched it live, and that his family watched animations. That is 100% correct. The camera used during the landing was a 16mm film camera. They had to wait until they got home to get the film developed before anybody could see the landing. The broadcasters played cartoonish animations during the live landing. Go watch one of them. Good grief. They're readily available on KZbin. The live TV camera wasn't used until the craft was stationary, and they were doing the moonwalk.

The moon LANDING that the world was watching was a CBS ANIMATION. It had to be. There were no cameras floating around the moon shooting live video, no cameras on the moon, obviously, shooting live video so CBS created an animation as a visual reference of the LANDING only. That animation had the words "CBS ANIMATION" at the top and bottom of the screen so people wouldn't think they were seeing the actual lunar module landing on the moon. After the landing video cameras were deployed and at that point the world saw live video from the moon. That's the way it happened no matter how you want to twist and spin it.

Because Aldrin already explained it. There were no cameras in space to film the landing so CBS made an animation of the LEM landing for visual reference.

The footage isn’t fake but it wasn’t relayed back to earth live. The footage people saw on tv while it was happening was animated, look it up. It’s obviously fake and says simulation up at the top, no one thought that was real

Buzz said there was animation used of the rocket on the way to the moon and of the LM on the way down to the moon because there was not any live camera. There wasn't any cameras on the outside of the spacecraft to film it. However, there WAS live feed of the moonwalk because there was a live feed camera mounted on the door of the storage bay of the LM. Armstrong pulled a cord that opened the cargo bay and Aldrin turned on the camera in the LM. Armstrong moved the camera to a tripod on the surface a few minutes into the over 2 hour walk. If you watch CBS’s broadcast from that day they show animation of the landing and even post across the screen its animation. Even with out that it was such bad animation it wouldn’t have fooled anyone anyway.

Conan said that his family watched the landing live on TV. Aldrin correctly told him that he couldn't have done that, because the only thing the broadcasters played during the landing was animations. That is factually correct, because the landing was shot on 16mm film, not a TV camera. Nobody on Earth would see the landing until they got back home and got the film developed. The live TV camera wasn't available until the start of the moonwalk. Why do you find this so difficult?

@@stevenramsie3055 The CBS station, the one that transmitted live broadcast of first the Moon landing, had only audio to work with: the footage from the film camera on board of the Lunar Module wouldn't be developed until they came back, the the TV camera has only been turned off after they landed. Therefore, in order to illustrate what was going on at any given time, CBS has not only prepared a Lunar Module mockup on a small soundstage, but also some animations. And all of that CBS-made footage was clearly labelled as such. And this is what Buzz Aldrin was talking about: Conan couldn't _see_ the Moon landing live, because there was no camera filming it, but only the CBS' animations.
