Omg, so when I was growing up my parents always say "rego" and it just stuck to me. And someone told me "what is rego?" and im like... the payment to make your car road legal to drive... and he said: "you do know what it stands for?" and I said: "yeah I just said it"... he's like: "no, its short for registration". I really thought rego was a word just to describe a car being legally on the road.

There is nothing as “Normal” or “Right” English especially these days...it’s all different dialects, all are normal no dialect better then another. (From a linguistics perspective) but yeah from my personal perspective British English is the Original one although mine is more similar to the American’s 😂

@workout9594
@workout9594 5 жыл бұрын
Lord Farquaad You've accurately conveyed the fallibility of the English language. Many things in English are devoid of logical thought, take the 'I before e except after c' rule that is contradicted by words like 'neighbour', or even take the concept of silent letters and their redundant nature and it is clear to see that the English language has many flaws. However, in the case of rubbers and erasers, just because other words have little rationale behind them, it does not mean that there should be acceptance of these words, rather, the words that replace and overtake these words in their logic should prevail in usage.

ok I had no idea that a water fountain was called a bubbleo or whatever even though Im aussie. and I thought those "smuggie bubblers" were called bathers.

Different states have different names for things too. Like a potato scallop is also called a potato cake or a potato fritter. Budgie smugglers or 'Speedos' the brand are also called swimmers, swimming trunks, bathers, bathing suit, one piece etc.

Reminds me of when I was a kid and the lyrics to the theme song of The Nanny had the word "fanny" in it. That does not mean the same thing outside of the US as it does in the US. 😅

That’s a drink fountain not a bubbler. I hate that people over east call it that. I’m from WA and never have called it that
