I'm a paranoid schizophrenic and I only occasionally hear voices, but it is still extremely tough to live my normal day-to-day life. My mind convinces itself that there are people watching me through my windows or that cameras are hidden in my home. I'm rational enough to realize these beliefs are false, but there's still a strong side of me that lives in fear. Thank you for your understanding, we need help from more people like you.

Well my boyfriend was diagnosed with schizophrenia, but he say he rarely heard voices that sound like that, most of the time he hallucinate with stuff like insects, reptiles and people walking in front of him, worst thing is that he thinks is real. We can be eating on a table and he suddenly began screaming that there are ants all over him and in the table when they aren't, is really hard to calm him. My respect to people with that

The problem with these "experiments" is, the voices are just random, they have no bearing, so it’s just white noise to these people. Plus these folks know they can take the headphones off when it gets to be too much… Granted it is nice to see that people are giving this some proper attention, but in my experience the voices all have emotional bearing and this just amps up the anxiety. Sometimes I cannot sleep for days between the anxiety and the voices. I have moments where I feel like I am in a room where like ten people are shouting at me expecting me to answer them (NOW!!!) and then the voice can also be my father or brother telling me how worthless I am, or how what I am doing is a waste of time, but mostly how worthless I am. So hearing you are worthless from some random voice is creepy but hearing your father tell you the same thing 100 times a day that’s a whole other can of worms. I almost didn’t write this because the father voice told me I am just wasting my time and to not even bother… Sometimes it’s not even a voice, but a sound of disapproval that they make. Latuda helps to soften the voices, but it's so expensive.... Both my father and brother are still alive for all I know, I don’t speak to either of them now.

It's one thing to hear those voices all day, but what they are not experiencing is the delusional thoughts, the deep paranoia and anxiety, the emotional instability, and the actual belief on some level that those voices are real and that they actually know something bad is going to happen if you don't do as they say.

Manic depression is an outdated term. It is called Bipolar disorder. It is something you need to be diagnoses with and to be treated for with a doctor you build a good working relationship with. If you want to know for certain, have your doctor prescribe you Latuda. This is also used for bipolar disorder as an "off label" use. It's expensive so be prepared. After a week on even the bipolar dosage you should notice some major improvements, this is like a volume control for the voices and it will help with your manic episodes as well.

A friend of mine talks about blood, Swing blood everywhere and that freaks her out to the point where she has to be taken to the hospital. She’s not crazy. She looks fine, doesn’t everything we do, is very pretty (actually pretty enough to be a model based on her height and body features) but gets episodes of schizophrenia both hearing things and Swing things (sometimes). So this video is like 1% of what gender victims actually experience.

Thank you for this Buzzfeed. My father took his own life from suffering from schizophrenia...its been 2 years since he passed. I have been trying to be an advocate and work as a mental health tech in hopes to prevent it happening for another family. I hope anyone else struggling can manage. You are in my thoughts and heart.

My grandmother was just recently diagnosed with Schizoaffective Disorder, basically schizophrenia but it involves depression, and they "people" in your head only insult you and the people you love. It has been a hard time for me and my family and I appreciate this video on keeping me educated. These past week my grandmother has been in the hospital and the mental heath institute I haven't been able to come and see her, and to know what she has been and is going through just made me dry after watching this video. I showed my entire family this video and they all thank BuzzFeed for making this. You have warmed our hearts

I have a dear friend whom was diagnosed with bipolar schizophrenia. If you need help, there are people out there to talk to. He wasn't diagnosed until after it was too late and in prison. So please, tell someone and don't be afraid or ashamed.

We just covered this in Psychology class. It's important to know that it's not just hearing voices. It's also paranoia of thoughts being broadcasted, being watched, and various other symptoms. Absolutely heartbreaking to see.

Man, I just adore this video. It's such a tough topic, but whoever made this handled it with grace, generosity, insight, and kindness. Keep making this stuff, BuzzFeed. We'll keep coming back for it. :]

This actually pisses me off. Just to clarify as to why, schizophrenia is not just hearing voices. I have schizophrenia and in the video it makes it seem like if you have it you have all of it. Schizophenia is an array of symptoms with uncertainty. In the video it makes it seem as if were not human and are just a test subject.

And all of the commenters saying we're "brave." Apparently brave enough for the pity but not for tax payments to help pay for the years of therapy and medication. And all of those undiagnosed people saying, "I have schizo" I feel like you get the upset about that. I get that everyone's experience is different with this illness, but I feel like the hallucinations, especially the auditory, are so publicized that auditory hallucinations are automatically associated with schizophrenia. No ok ne sees a disoriented person and thinks, "schizophrenia" but of course you know they'd be calling that person, "schizophrenic." No one sees the other symptoms as recognizable and it makes me so frustrated because it's so much more than a hallucination, on top of that, so many people with schizophrenia don't experience hallucinations

@LishB10117 жыл бұрын
nilstkkt curious how you would think to go about simulating it? I can't really think how I could make someone feel manic without giving them some kind of stimulant and then bombard them with anxiety triggers (that's the only way I can describe how I feel when I'm manic)

I understand but my point was about making a video explaining it with some kind of immersive experience but not necessarily with real people having to feel the symptoms

I’m on medicine for my schizophrenia and I’m doing fine. The worst part of schizophrenia is not the voices to me though. The worst part is the delusions; The thought that people are trying to control your mind and want to hurt you and that your family is betraying you.

yup. Wish they could simulate other hallucinations. If you think hearing someone say "there are eyes everywhere" try seeing them. lol, I see a thing crawl around the corners of my house and I used to feel hands grab me under tables.

Thank you!! I wish people who know people with schizophrenia could see this and, begin to even know about Schizophrenia. I am a 50 year old woman who has Schizophrenia and wasn't diagnosed until I was 18. I hid my affliction for as long as I could, and my family never did understand, well alone have a clue what was going on with me.The medications help dampen it down but make a person's body terribly uncomfortable. I can't go out at all. If I do, it is incredibly hard, but I do go to grocery store, walk around my neighborhood,.. I like The Library. I graduated High school, am very well read and got married, have been in a loving relationship with my husband for 26 years and raised two Sons, both of which are doing very well. I have had to be hospitalized many times, but that is okay, I am grateful I have that option and do like the head shrink and brain wash..it is much needed sometimes. I want anyone with Schizophrenia to know, it is possible to get on top of it and not be afraid of the hallucinations enough so one can function in one's particular way,, even on the worst of days. I appreciate this video and I hope it does a lot of good

My dad has schizophrenia and it has been a huge struggle for him his whole life and when I think of my childhood I'm reminded of his struggles. He was hospitalized more than 20 times. He tried committing sucide a few years back and it was a big wake up call for him. He now takes shots and it has been a complete 360. Now that I am older I have a better understanding and have so much admiration for him for doing such a great job raising my brother and I while struggling with schizophrenia.

Schizophrenia. Is a serious mental disorders. In my hometown yesterday a man walked into the gas station claiming he was stabbed by scissors. Cops and ambulances arrived and found that he wasn't harmed. Also last month a large man hit his mom with a gatar and killed her down the road. Our mental health clinics were shut down in Iowa and it is hitting hard for us.

Schizophrenia is like feeling *completely insane.* There, summed it up for you. There's no "getting rid of the stigma" of schizophrenia. It's a very-near life ruining psychological disorder that unfortunately quite a large number of people suffer from. I feel horrible for these people and there's not a lot to do for them. All we're able to do medically is mentally numb them from almost all emotion which seems to get rid of the symptoms completely, but people choose to rather suffer because life without feeling anything is said to be way worse.

I'm glad ppl are getting a feeling of what it feels like to have something like this, I personally have this mental illness as well as a couple more and it really does make u feel horrible, like an out sider and a freak. The only difference is that we have to live with this for the rest of our life's and it's hard but I'm glad people are seeing what it's like to have this kind of illness because I got bullied for it mainly because people didn't understand it, whatever they didn't understand they made fun of. It was really bad. If u want to know I have 3 voices, karma, Luna and Stella they are all the main voices I hear as well as whispers in the back ground. Thank u for doing this and making people understand what it's like
