If anyone is wondering why Japan has so many varieties of Kit Kat flavors it's because Kit Kat sounds like the Japanese words for good luck which is kito kato. So people tend to eat them when they feel like they need a bit of luck in their lives. Students buy a butt load when midterms and finals are coming up (they also tend to sell out at around that time), and adults buy them in hopes of promotions when they think one's coming up. That or they're just hungry, and like the flavors.

"No one in America is goin be heating up a kit kat" THIS IS WHY WE CANT HAVE NICE JAPANESE THINGS
@YouareSOjelly9 жыл бұрын
Here's why Japan is crazy serious about Kit Kats: There is a phrase in Japanese which translates into good luck: "kitte katsu." Since "Kit Kat" in Japanese sounds exactly the same [read: it's a homophone], there is a loosely-followed tradition among Japanese students to snack on Kit Kats. Whether people actually believe it's good luck to eat a Kit Kat before exams is debatable, but they are more of a special occasion treat, hence the fancier packaging. A lot of those flavors of Kit Kat are regional promotions, showcasing a type of flavor a particular region of Japan. It'd be like having a different flavor Kit Kat for every state in the US. These Kit Kats are more so marketed as a souvenir than an everyday snack. You can get some of the Japanese Kit Kat flavors at certain stores in America, but because it's a specialty import, the prices on these tasty confections are much higher than your run-of-the-mill chocolate. If you happen to get one of these Japanese Kit Kat boxes, savor every tiny little bite. Maybe you'll have a luckier day because of it.

I live in Japan and I'd say the best and most popular flavor of Kit Kats is the "Macha" flavor. "Macha" is the japanese name given to their traditional green tea. The Macha flavored Kit-Kats don't actually taste like Green Tea, at least in my opinion. They're just creamy and not super sweet. Oh, and they're green. HOW COOL IS THAT? I don't know if Macha Kit Kats can be purchased in an american store, but I'm sure you'll find them online. But when trying foreign or new foods, you have to do it positively. Don't do it in disgust, or else you'll most likely be disgusted. Do I make any sense??

Yat To I don't know if you use bro as a gender neutral or if you're talking to the other commenter, but I'm a woman. KitKat (or キットカット) has sort of established a market in Japan for being motivators for study. On each box during exam season, there are small words of motivation like "Keep your head up." or "You can do it!" Teenagers buy these as snacks while they study. So I think this is partially why KitKats have done so well in Japan, granting them an increase in variety/flavors unlike the west. Yes, KitKat may have been an English creation, but they don't provide the type of consumerism that Japan has provided for the KitKat company. (I hope this puts an end to the "favorism of KitKat" comments)

My sister said something along the lines of Kit Kat's name being reminiscent of success in japanese, kitto katsu being "good luck" or something. Can't remember the details, just know students love these, especially before exams. But either way, that's why Kit Kat's so super popular over there with the gotta catch 'em all flavor amounts.

I am totally allergic to chocolate but somehow.. japanese kit kat doesn't make me allergic! I totally love them! like how the matcha one taste, the cheese cake from previous part, rum and raisin, the baked pudding!! those tasted the best! those tester should be grateful to eat those. Those are not something we can eat everyday if we don't live in Japan

Try Amazon or a local Japanese market.

Your best bet would be online. Unless you live in a city with a large Japanese market / store, then you most likely won't be finding these flavors. I found a few different flavors at a store near me, but they tasted awful, and the only one seen in this video that was there was the Citrus one, and it tasted nothing like how they described it.

Wait I'm so confused... is the use of the word exotic offensive? The first thing that comes to mind when I hear exotic is new or different... why is everyone so upset. These Kitkats are bith new and different to the Americans trying them for the first time. Is the connotation of exotic negative?

These videos are meant to be amusing, not the sources of hateful debates.
@epicotakucherry52809 жыл бұрын
I don't think it's meant to be offensive, especially because the people who tried the kitkats loved them. They meant exotic as in different, that's all. If people are angry in the comments, I don't understand why. The only reason Americans have to be angry is for the American Kit Kat company needs to kick their butts in to high gear and give us some of these. They seem delicious.

Epic Otaku Cherry Gotta agree with the black lady though, that baked pudding one seems awesome, but not awesome enough to justify breaking out the toaster oven.
@epicotakucherry52809 жыл бұрын
Yuko Asho I get that. I don't really want to have to bake the candy before I eat it. I might do it once, out of curiosity, but probably not for any other reason. That's a bit too much work.

So for anyone who doesn't know, Kit-Kat is pronounced "kitto-katto" in Japanese, which roughly translates to "You'll surely win". People usually give these Kit-Kats as gifts to people before important exams or tests. Over time they got more popular, so Japan decided to expand on the idea of what kind of flavors can be placed around two wafers :) tl;dr Japan has special customs involving Kit-Kats.
