In the evening hours, BVFD was dispatched to a reported shed fire with multiple exposures. While en-route, units were updated of a reported explosion that occurred, and the structure was now fully engulfed. The call was upgraded to a working fire with smoke and flames visible a few miles from the scene. BVFD units arrived on scene within three minutes of the dispatch. First arriving apparatus found a single story, wood frame, garage structure to be fully engulfed with multiple exposure problems. Firefighters quickly deployed two attack lines for fire attack operations, and hand stretched a supply line for water supply. Firefighters preformed a defensive attack due to the structural stability upon fire department arrival. The bulk of the fire was knocked down in just under 10 minutes of the first arriving apparatus. After further investigation, it was noted the explosions were from multiple oxygen tanks, propane tanks, and acetylene tanks being stored inside the structure. The cause was determined to be a malfunction with a golf cart located inside the structure. No injuries were reported on scene, and the fire was contained to the primary structure without causing damage to the exposures. BVFD responded with six apparatus, 20 personnel, and were on scene for two hours before returning to service. Lee County Emergency Management, and Lee County Sheriffs Office also responded to the scene.
