I think the corners are like that to act as a banking to keep cars on track, this is a blast from my younger days 😆👍

I've just spent the most enjoyable 50-odd minutes watching this. Thank you. 😂 We had a Scalextric set in the 80s (actually I think we may have had two as we made ours really long and moved all of my parents furniture out of the way to accommodate it 😂) and ours worked really well! We spent hours racing against each other and the cars would go so fast. I still remember the smell of a Scalextric set and the feel of the scratchy controllers!

I used to work in a hobby shop back in the day and we was a Hornby/Scalextric specialist 🤓 many hours of sore fingers from clipping that track together haha. That “warped” track is the banked curves, you will see the edge of the track is different on the inside to the outside 🫣 if you have tried to flatten them you have probably kinked the inside of the metal, just pop a flat screwdriver in there to open the slot back up 👍🏼 Use the different levels of the of those black plastic triangle things to smooth out the bridge and support the outside of the banking. The little pinion gears on the motors always dry out, shrink, crack and fall off. Replacements are easily available as are new guide blades and braids 👍🏼 To clean the track use one of those blue rubber ink eraser’s. You should then be golden and good to go 🏁🚗💨🎉

Oh and to replace the braids take the guide blade off, pull out the little copper grommets, replace the braid then poke the wire back through the middle of the grommet fold the bare end over and push it back into the guide blade trapping the braid in place 👍🏼

I have the same set in my shed, but the box has had it, as Per railway you need to clean the rails and also the motor electrics, you can get motors or the gears easy online. there is a few types of track ; micro and then like yours the full size (lollypop joiners) and the clip together, there is also like the railway system controllers like you have and digital where the track is live and a digital signal is sent to the correct car or train or accessory. clean the tracks but note the tangs at the joints clean them and under the rails where they contact. Also sticky up the rear tyres, take them off the rims work them to soften them, refit them and roll them on the sticky side of masking tape, also "mag track" the metros I think have magnets in the Bottom to hold it to the rails but add or change them for new Neodymium ones. OH and Chris will not get rid of it when he finds out you can get a Scalextric Ford Transit !

I think the metal contacts between each track section and the surface metal rail need cleaning up with some contact cleaner spray as there appears to be no continuity between each section. This was a common problem with my Scalextric set.

The curves are banking originally they came with triangular pieces with a stepped side to hold the banking in place at 13.20 you pick up the wedges. It’s an oval not a flyover set.The cars are a lot lower quality to my 1960 set best fun both on same track trying to catch the other.

Wow, I haven't seen slot cars in years! As for the wire sticking to the foam, that was a common problem back then because polystyrene would react with the plasticizer in the PVC in the wire and they would 'melt' together. The solution was to put the wire in a clear plastic bag to keep it from touching the foam. The slot cars I've seen in the US are about half the size of those and had two metal contacts that touched the rails on the track instead of two flat wires.

TAKE THE CARS APPART AND MAKE SURE THE WIRES HAVENT COME OFF THE MOTERS SOME OF THE MOTERS MIGHT BE BURNT OUT. YOU CAN SWAP THE GOOD ONES AND PUT THEM ON THE GOOD CARS WITH THE GOOD WIRE MESH THAT CONTACTS THE TRACK. ALSO MAKE SURE THE TRACKS ARE EVEN ALL THE WAY AROUND I WOULD PUT IT ON A FLAT TABLE RATHER THAN FLOOR BORDS.ALSO CLEAN THE JOINS ON THE TRACK WITH 180 GRIT FINE SAND PAPER AS WELL AS THE TRACK RAILS AS WELL THEN WIPE DOWN WITH METHALATED SPIRITS OF ISOPROPASOAL ALACAHOL.ALSO IT YOU SEE SPARKS WHERE IT MEETS THE TRACK THAT MEANS IT GOOD.

These toys were the small boys Had pen knives The set. I always wanted Was the racing trucks Great memories Did you ever have the little steam engines? The traction engine, the steam lorry or the Steam roller. Having to go and buy methodlated spirits. The good old days. Whe The paraffinn Man would come round In his little lorry. And sell you a pint. Or what went in the jug? That your mum would send you out With esso blue. And the pink paraffin man.

The red car and the blue car had a race all the red car done was go forward and inch and won the race 😂 on a serious note those are curved banks and the tyres have gone hard with age it needs more tinkering gents. TBF those metros were never that good 😁 buy a later set is my advice 😀

Oh bugger I always wanted a set back in the 60s, only affordable one track and one car, still have them, but 3 years ago on my retirement I purchased many hornby railways sets and absolutely rubbish Chinese crap, I spent $3.000 of my savings and it's basically rubbish. Hornby manufacturing is rubbish, $500 for each locomotive and it's rubbish,
