Sawmill Lake is a 14 acre lake located in Washburn county in Wisconsin. It has a max depth of 26 feet, and contains panfish, largemouth bass, northern pike, and trout.
It has nice clear water, but the bottom is 95% muck, so it makes the water look very dark. It also has a 25 site campground that is surrounded by many small kettle moraine glacial lakes, which are connected by a canoe portage system.
It reminds me of the BWCA in northern Minnesota. You will be surrounded by rolling hills filled with hardwoods that look spectacular in the fall. IF you want to get away from it all, this is a great place.
If you are enjoying these videos, or would like to suggest a lake for me to review, please let me know in the comments, or email me at: rande@gomidwestfishing.com

Hi Rande! Beautiful lake! So nice to go on a lake where no motors are allowed. So peaceful. Great underwater footage! Hope you have a great weekend.

Perch, trout, bass, bluegill. I’d say that was a good night. Reggie had a good idea (and a full time trolling expert) to guide him around 😂

I grew up a couple miles from here. I probably should have visited this place more when I lived there. It really is a beautiful area.

Beautiful setting and awesome underwater clips. Two suggestions: 1) if you are not going to keep a trout, you should wet your hand first before handling them. Trout are delicate, and you don’t want to remove the slime coating on their skin with a dry hand. A close-up view of that trout would’ve been nice, also. 2) try closing the bail on your spinning reel by hand instead of forcing it closed cranking the handle. This will keep your line tighter on the reel, reducing twist and eventual wind knots, and will increase the life of your reel. Nice video.

I appreciate the tips. The trout started wiggling so he threw it overboard instead of having it flopping in the boat, but yeah, I wanted a closer look at it too.

My favorite BWCA lake in Minnesota that I took my boys to every summer when they were growing up is Sawbill Lake.

I have to admit, I haven't actually fished the BWCA yet. I've been on many lakes that connect to it, but haven't ventured into it yet. That's so interesting that there is a lake up there with such a similar name.

Great vid! Did you find out what lives in the holes? 😂

We never did see any animals near the holes. I'm assuming it was beavers since the waterline used to be above the holes.

We ended up cooking a handful of bluegills. Trout are Ok, but not my favorite eating fish.
