BWCA six day solo canoe trip along the Frost River(Days 1 and 2)

This is part one of a six day solo canoe trip in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area (BWCA). I tackle the scenic and remote Frost River. This is my first time filming with a GoPro Hero 5. Sometimes the audio picks up a lot of canoe and water noises so I apologize for that. I’ll try and figure out a different mounting system in the future. Thanks for watching.

If you master the J stroke and underwater retrieval, your trips will go a lot smoother! I always recommend kneeling while paddling :) Makes your strokes more efficient and adds stability. Looks like a fun trip! I've been wanting to do a solo run for quite some time now

Nice filming, been through that part of the BW many times. You really need to learn how to " J stroke" with your paddle, then you can paddle on one side of your boat all day if you wish.

Thanks, never even knew that was a thing. I use a yak paddle for my 14 foot canoe but if I rent a prism again, I’ll definitely do it. Thanks for the advice. That’s what I love about camping, sometimes you learn the simplest things that make your trip so much better.

Sit and switch is much more efficient

@@markpetterson5838 If you mean switching sides with each paddle stroke, then sorry but a solo J stoke paddler will pull away with ease.

We did the Frost and the Louse back to back in 2018. Enjoyed your video as it takes me back. Awesome that you did it solo. We camped at the same site on the Frost. As far as the paddling comments go, when solo consider a 2 bladed kayak style paddle. Paddle on!

I did the Frost River in 2013 with three other guys and had to crossover 12 to 14 beaver dams. The only difference is we were heading in the opposite direction. We overnighted on Bologna.
