I worked for G4S and used to drive these 14 cell vans and yes they are allowed to use bus lanes, they are classed as buses.

i work for serco as a pcv driver - yes, we can use all bus lanes, the only exception is if a sign indicates ''local'' buses only
@nikkibell67 жыл бұрын
This is either a 12 or 14 cell van, and is also under the correct Category for the bus lane due to weight. So yes it’s allowed In the bus lane 👍🏽

The bus lane timeplate states not to be used during the hours of 4-7pm, Mon to Sat so I think the prison van can use the bus lane outside those hours as well as other vehicles.

Prison vans often aren't allowed to stop and can break certain traffic laws for security reasons. Also, this is legally classed as a bus because of the seats on board.
@littlebigman72317 жыл бұрын
Moon trog for your info a bus is used mainly for local stage carriage work and carries a ticket machine and fast opening doors. And a coach is used for longer distance work has no ticket machine ( except may ex and Megabus. Etc ) and has luggage space and usually a toilet . And the driver is paid less than bus drivers because they don't handle cash .
@callummitchell75387 жыл бұрын
by definition in the road traffic act 1988, yes it is a bus. you need a cat D licence to drive one.

Serco has an exemption for 12 and 14 cell vehicles (those which require a PCV licence). The smaller vehicles cannot use the bus lanes outwith the specified hours.
@andrewmeadows25966 жыл бұрын
Technically it is classed as a bus and can use bus lanes. I hope that answers your question.
@4ChordsNoNet6 жыл бұрын
Yes it does
@Camsplint12 жыл бұрын
You'd have to look at the individual Traffic Regulation Order that created the bus lane, but there are a number of exemptions that are normally allowed, including police, fire and ambulance vehicles, many types of local authority or highway contractor's vehicles etc. I would not be in the least bit surprised if prison vans are among the list, and of course, the definition of "bus" is open to question anyway.

2. Thank you for letting me know that I got the reg no wrong. I have corrected in the title and description, but not the video. That would mean deleting and re-uploading it. As for your other comments. 1. Takes one to know one. 3. Why would my bike piss people off? 4. Why not? 5. Coached cannot use all bus lanes, there are many that are local authority ones only. I presume that you drive a gold Rover.

Yes, and if you go up and ask, they will probaly even let you ride it (locked in one of it's holding cells straight to the police station :)

I think any vehicle that can carry 9 passengers can use a bus lane unless local restrictions apply.
@kevinjohnrowe11 жыл бұрын
the only exception for a 12 or 14 cell prison van NOT to use the bus lanes shown in this video is if the bus lane sign indicates 'local buses' - there is no evidence that this is the case in this instance - this bus is perfectly correct to use the bus lane.
@matthewwells7866 Жыл бұрын
10,12 & 14 cell prison vans and above are permited to use bus lanes.
@maidstoneonbike12 жыл бұрын
If you can drive a minibus in a local authority bus lane, I'd say the prison van could go in the bus lane, but I'm no expert in these things.
@kevinjohnrowe11 жыл бұрын
Tim, i'm afraid you are wrong on the ''any prison van bar the 3 cells'' bit...it is only 12 a 14 cells that are permitted in bus lanes - it has nothing to do with keeping prisoners calm nor has it anything to do with public or prisoner safety...it will only marginally reduce the risk of a high jack but when you bare in mind that whoever might hijack a prison van is hardly going to be too fussed that it happens to be travelling in a bus lane, then this thought process cancels that out? - PCO 8yrs

furthermore - coaches are able to use them for exactly the same reason. what is a coach if it is not a bus?
@21yah6951s3 жыл бұрын
Yes they can as they hold PCV license and the sign must say Local Buses only!

Read the description again, I say that you need a Class D licence (that's PCV) to drive one. I was simply questioning whether they were entitled to drive in a bus lane as they are not a bus/cycle/taxi/motorbike. Technically, coaches should not use them.

@4ChordsNoNet12 жыл бұрын
Please read the description in the video, I have already said that you need a Class D/D1 licence to drive one, my question is are they allowed to use Bus Lanes? Coaches are not allowed to use most Bus Lanes, even though you can drive both on the same licence.

If you're gonna post a vid do some homework, the vehicle has 10 cells which means a PCV licence is required to drive it, therefore it's classed as a bus.
