And the curses of sin .. be they directly from our fault or otherwise. The curses of sin include sicknesses so whilst i agree the context of that particular verse is mainly to make us whole again from the scourges of having fallen to the point of death in the spiritual sense (by rising back with Jesus in resurrection victory!), I think it is generally okay for children of God to call upon Him in prayer for healings over all physical ailments/infirmities/diseases.. so long as they also settle within themselves to the understanding that He is also sovereign, hence it is always only as He wills (i.e. sometimes there is a bigger reason/season/purpose for the suffering and ultimately we will get all the answers to such mystery questions when we get to heaven one day). Bottom line is there remains faith, love, hope to sustain the believer throughout. Glory be to our God

If we let outcome decide truth instead of Jesus' life and word then we are going to raise our experience above His name and he magnified His Word above His name. How many of us have raised our experience above His word and re wrote His Word based on our outcome. So in our attempts to soothe our hurting hearts we've written something an analogy at the cost of truth which makes us free and now we've got a problem (Dan Mohler)

Wow, I just read all of Matthew 8 so I'd have proper context and you're absolutely right, this absolutely says that we're healed from sickness and infirmities because he took them upon himself. So the verse, "By his stripes we are healed" HAS to mean physical healing. I had seen both perspectives about Isaiah 53:5 but this PROVES it was talking about physical healing.

Yes but that’s Jesus fulfilling the prophecy of Isaiah. I’m not saying miracles don’t still happen I believe they do, but it’s Gods will if they happen or not. The health and wealth preachers make it seem like anytime someone is sick today they should be healed and if they’re not then they don’t have faith which is dangerous.

Does God heal? Sometimes. Does God not heal? Sometimes. I've been dealing with a crippling disease for almost 40 yrs and have had numerous surgeries and I'll probably have the need for more. Why have I not been healed? I don't know, but God knows. That's good enough for me. I won't always have this diseased body because Jesus died on the cross and the day will come when I have my glorified body in heaven. I don't believe not being healed has to do with lack of faith, as I have been told. Do your research. With what diseases did Billy Graham, Charles Stanley, J. Vernon Mcgee and Corrie Ten Boom die? Were they physically healed? Were they of little faith? I think not. So for me I say, let God be God. He knows. That's enough for me.

Well the scripture is talking about Christ suffering on the cross right. If Christ's suffering on the cross ought to bring spiritual and physical healing, then how did Christ heal people before the crosd then. Clearly Jesus didn't need to die on the cross for us to get physical healing. So with that in perspective we can conclude that Christ died in the cross for us to get spiritual healing a.k.a be born again

I used to think Isaiah 53:5 and 1 Peter 2:24 referred only to spiritual healing. Then I was reading Matthew's gospel and read Matthew 8:17 which says " this was to fulfil what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah, 'he took our illnesses and bore our diseases'. I wondered where it said that in Isaiah and all the commentaries referred to Isaiah 53:5. So Matthew apparently got it wrong (according to you). Or else Isaiah 53:5 does actually refer to physical healing, which must be true if we believe Matthew was diviniely inspired.

@@chrismolemedia If you examine how the apostles quoted the Old Testament, you'll notice that they often take only parts of the passage. Revelation comes in parts throughout the Old Testament, regardless of verse divisions. It's important to focus on what they actually quoted. For example, in Matthew 8:17, only part of Isaiah 53:4 is quoted, not Isaiah 53:5. These are distinct parts. Isaiah 53:4 is fulfilled during Jesus' ministry, while Isaiah 53:5, 'by His stripes we are healed,' refers to the healing of our sins so that we may live in righteousness.

it is a good and accurate exposition - for spiritual healing is always more important than phyiscal healing. Often if we ail physically it is tied to sin (fornication/adultery - those are sins we do to our own peril in our own body), but more so than that, our own neglect and abuse (smoking, drinking, drugs) - God had nothing to do with that when we make a choice to live in a way we know morally and internally (God's image in fallen man) is wrong, but do it any way, because the world does, and approves of such who do. Does that mean, God doesn't care about physical suffering? Of course He does, He is well acquinted with it more than any of us will be. Does that mean, God cannot or will not heal? Not necessarily. Does it bring glory to Him? Is there a reason to for people to see and believe, i.e. Lazarus from death to life, Thomas - go ahead, I did come back, doesn't matter if you refuse to believe or not, here I am standing in front of you, test me put your hands in my wounds. Christ desires us to be spiritually healed - much more so than taking away our affliction, because in pain, we have a keener sense of listening. God can and still does heal, but not so much in the name it and claim ways we have seen the Bible be misinterpreted, and misused for our own hopes. Case in point, look at our head usher Ken's daughter? Do we doubt that God has not been the master physician giving them more days together than thought to be left? One of our neighbors now 89 was sure to die about a month ago, God in His mercy allowing people to minister the Gospel to her, is defying the doctors, and keeping her alive. But our faith must be in Him, and we serve Him, not Him us. He is God, and He does as He chooses and pleases to whatever His will being carried out is or will be. We all have been infected with sin, no cure for that (except Jesus) 100% fatality rate - no one of us will live in these decaying bodies forever no matter how well we eat and exercise, our time is coming when He says our work on earth is done for those who love Him, or for those who have exhausted all chances of His grace and mercy saving them. The real miracle is spiritual healing.

you bring up a valid point Pinky - I like your page, and am glad you ❤ and follow Jesus, that is always encouraging. I'd like to answer your question w a question Pastor Darryl usually does - there are somethings we don't know, for we are finite, not infinite, not powerful nor all knowing. But while answering this came to mind from John ch. 9 - 1 Now as Jesus was passing by, He saw a man blind from birth, 2 and His disciples asked Him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?” 3 Jesus answered, “Neither this man nor his parents sinned, but this happened so that the works of God would be displayed in him.… This is the Lord Himself answering. While He is not constrained by the dimensions of time and space, we are, and patience is a virtue. I can tell you this, when we get a new resurrected body, there will no longer be the ailments you speak of. Hope that is of some help.@@PinkyToe

For centuries people did not experience being "born again", In the last century it was D L Moody (formerly a shoe salesman turned Pastor) who fought his obstinate congregation declaring we are changed when we accept Jesus as Lord and Savior . They wanted him removed as Pastor. We can look back and see that many in his congregation put experience above the Word.

People despised and avoided him, a man of pains, well acquainted with illness. Like someone from whom people turn their faces, he was despised; we did not value him. In fact, it was our diseases he bore, our pains from which he suffered; yet we regarded him as punished, stricken and afflicted by God. But he was wounded because of our crimes, crushed because of our sins; the disciplining that makes us whole fell on him, and by his bruises* we are healed. Yesha 'yahu (Isa) 53:3‭-‬5 CJB

Brother, I can appreciate your zeal to be in context, sincerely, however the Blood of Jesus speaks better things than the blood of Abel. Sickness is a result of the fall- Jesus has paid the price for Sin and Sickness. Just like everyone won’t receive forgive of sins, not everyone will receive healing- part of living in the Kingdom is embracing mystery as we see through a glass dimly. Jesus is a Healer and Redeemer. The Holy Spirit bears witness to this revelatory about Yahweh’s Suffering Servant- He bore the entire curse of sin on the Cross, or He did not? He did indeed! Thus God has exalted Him as King of Kings- every knee shall bow- All Hail King Jesus! Again, I see your zeal for studying the scripture, however to say Jesus atoned only for sins is discounting the atonement. The blood atones for sin, sickness, brokenness - Luke 4:18! I do understand there has been abuses around healing and interpreting the Word, but discounting the atoning work of Jesus - I would be very careful and have the fear of the Lord when teaching on what His Blood has accomplished. Teachers will receive a stricter judgement. Grace and Peace❤

I know the truth behind these verses because I was healed of a 3 year long mystery illness. I believe and receive that by the 39 stripes Jesus took for me and you and everyone even unbelievers we are healed of our physical body. ❤ Thank you, Jesus.

Wow.... What nonsense. This guy takes the scripture out of context. Jesus walked this earth and people were healed. Jesus told his disciples to go and do what he did. Jesus can't heal people now like he did because he told us to go heal people. Jesus can only heal people right now through those who obey his command. He told us to lay hands and heal the sick. So a prophet is the mouth piece of God. Isaiah spoke that when our Messiah was whipped at the whipping post, he was paying the price for all sicknesses and Diseases. So we have power over sicknesses and diseases because the price he paid at the post. So the rule is to use the name of Jesus against sicknesses and diseases. If Pilate would have had Jesus whipped at the whipping post, then said that is all. I will not have him crucified. Then we could be healed because of the price Jesus paid, but we could not be forgiven our sins. Dying on the cross he paid for our sins. Whipped at the whipping post was for sicknesses and diseases. They are 2 separate events. When i lay hands and command sickness to leave it is Gods Holy Spirit thus Jesus flowing through me that heals that person. Not me. It isn't me that heals them. It is my obedience to lay hands as Jesus commands that heals them In the name of Jesus. God gave us power over anything the devil can throw at us.
