I have a doubt sir Here in these sentences I found two verbs. One is past tense verb and other is base verb +ing When will I use the latter form of verb sir ? Please clear me sir

When it rained, I was going to school. So I got wet. "Was going" is past continuous. "Was" is a supporting verb. "Ing" is make the meaning in continuous form. But it won't stand alone. I t has to be supported by a supporting verb like "was". Supporting verb is also called Helping verb.
