You don't get much cosier than this fireside idyll, complete with crumpets, slippers and great-great-great grandmother's warming pan; so beguiling is the setting that the viewer will barely notice they are watching a commercial for Maypole Tea.

There is something very comforting about watching these old films showing England as it was!

When my husband was alive, we would have afternoon tea or coffee with treats and talk about the day :) :) Lovely memory

For those unfamiliar with warming-pans, it was a copper pan with a lid and a very long handle and at night you took the ashes from the fireplace, put them in the pan, closed the lid and latched it shut, then using the long handle, slipped the pan into your bed so that it was nice and warm. Of course you took the pan out before you got into bed! We also had a toasting fork for crumpets in the fire. A man used to come round in the winter on a bicycle selling "muffins and crumpets!"

A considerably posher version of days spent with my dear old gran in the 1960s. Furnishings and silver salvers apart, it's still basically the same. Toasting crumpets by the fire! Can't beat it...

This was 1945-- tea with a frosted cake AND jam AND biscuits? The rations wouldn't have stood it, especially for only two people.

My favorite part about the fireside is the Pot of Soup that never went empty.

I have to say the title of this reminds me of an old Vera Lynn song by the same name and it fits in perfectly with the lyrics.

I love everything about this. What a great little movietone commercial. Okay, maybe the spread was pretty nice for right after the war. But what they're trying to show is what life can return too. It never stops to amaze me. When you read some of the nasty comments that people post. What they really are is jealous. Jealous of seeing people leading a happy, decent life. Because they know that their life is pretty well much crap. Stop being jealous and haters, if you like something, imitated it. 👍
