*This reel is perfect for me **enjoyable.fishing** recommend the price, the look, the drag. Just a little bit noisy if tension knob is not right on the click. If well ajusted...no backlash ! Love it !!*
@rogeriosantos321 Жыл бұрын
I spooled it with 8 LB test mono for lighter lures, gave it some practice casts and found that it did cast well kzbin.infoUgkxSlytCJqozTF7EbdP4LWP-HUXf9WRDJ0e , except that the anti-backlash setting had to be turned up almost all of the way to keep the "overcasts' ' down. I disassembled it, and found that if I potted some "shim washers" behind that anti-backlash magnet assembly, it got the magnets closer to the spool without rubbing, and I could get better control with about a 6 to 7 out out 10-Max setting. I also noticed that the handle shaft had some internal end play, maybe only 2 or 3 thousands of an inch, but it's still noticeable. If the anti-backlash and shaft tolerances were "tightened up" this would be a fantastic value. I've only used it for 4 days of fishing in a month's time, but I plan on keeping it.

Of all the spinning reels I fish and there are many, this is probably my favorite reel to fish with.
@zak5262 жыл бұрын
I have 4 of them, never felt such confidence in a reel before. Won't break, won't give up in a fight, and as smooth as the 400$ reels. I like that it doesn't use too much of the space-age materials, no flex at all and feels so solid.

Great review...I am mostly a Penn and Fin Nor guy...but bought a 4000 BG to replace an older Penn 440 SSG that is getting repaired...it really is a fine reel...well made...good looking...and casts without issue...and not very expensive...I like my SSV Vs better, but it is a lot cheaper. In short...it just works.

Hey Chris! Great review! That reel looks real nice. I only own 1 spinning reel since I just moved to the gulf coast a little over a year ago (the rest of my reels are baitcasters for freshwater) but I had a buddy that used all Daiwa spinning reels and he loved them. Hey buddy i just want to give you a heads up before you buy one. I've been using this for over a year now and there are 3 problems I found, the first is the bail close during the cast and I have lost a few lures, the second is the black paint fads away showing the metal underneath, the third is that it's heavy. The good thing about this reel is the cranking power it's a powerful reel and very solid. When I don't catch a fish I hate the real because it's heavy and the bail close when casting is annoying but when I catch a fish it has awesome power and great drag feels good when fish on.

Great review, this reel is at the top of my list. I'm looking at the 2500 or the 3000 size mainly for artificial lures. Thanks for the good review!
@kaih48896 жыл бұрын
it depends on what your fishing for but I would recommend the 3000 because it can pretty much catch anything and the 2500 is a little small in my opinion but what you can do is go to your local tackle shop or Walmart (yes they sell them) and just do a little size comparison and see what you like hope this helps

With the BG, you should look at weight vs line capacity. A 4000 Penn conflict holds much less line than the BG 3500. Also the 3000 and 3500 have about the same weight. In the smaller sizes the BG X500 reels have a better weight to line capacity ratio.

I really like the new Penn Clash II too. The Clash II I'd say isn't as durable as the BG. BG can probably take more abuse if you're rough on your gear. They both have about exact same specs but the BG costs a lot less...I have a BG 3k and a 5k, A Clash II 2500 and a 4k. I do prefer the Penns but for the price, I'd buy the BG. I do get a discount from Penn being a former pro staff member. Otherwise I'd buy the BG...Now the Penn Slammer III...lol

i have the 3000 and the 3500. best reels for the price. the 3500 is much larger and has a great handle. i use this reel on my striper and blue rig and it is never overmatched. the 3000 is a smooth confidence inspiring reel i use for jigging fluke or anything else that hits but its egonomics aren't perfect for me. between the position of the thin bale wire and the stubby frame and maybe the size of my hands i find the 3000 size not to be ideal . i compared the 3000's bale travel with my other reels and indeed the bale finishes its most rear rotation 1/2 inch behind the spool. way behind any of my other comparible reels.

I have recently had the BG 5000 and it works well for the coast and kayak (I still have to FILL IT WITH FAT TO PROTECT IT)...being the 2nd hand, the handle cannot be removed (they tell me that I should give it heat or put it in the freezer!)....retrieve 47", but for now I have it 1/5" from the edge= 40"(slower but +TORQUE). SARAGOSA 8k/SLAMMER HS would be one more step, but more $$. For jigging/low ratio I go with SOCORRO 5k and(one step more) the SPHEROS 10k.

I did my own casting testing on the diawa BG5000, Penn 6500Spinfisher and the Penn Conflict 7000. Same pole, same line same oz lead. Although I love the looks and the retrieve rate of the Diawa BG5000, it performed the worse as far as casting distance. It consistantly got 10 yard less then both penn reels. I think because the Diawas spool has a too much of a horizontal design causing more resistance while the line peels off the spool. While examining the Penn reels they boy have a slight angle on spool creating less drag when casting. I bought two BG5000 and I'm returning one since I've already used the other one and cant return it. I was very disappointed.
@CaptChrisCanning4 жыл бұрын
Good observation and great test! But as far as deep dropping and bulldogging fish, the BG is a beast
@oneloveyessah4 жыл бұрын
@@CaptChrisCanning you have a point. If I was bottom fishing then I would definitely have kept the reel however the type of fishing we do in Hawaii, distance is the key of being successful catching fish. Dont get me wrong. I really like the BG5000 alot that's why I bought it. Its solid, quality reel, one of the best retrieve 47.4" per crank is amazing. And I love how it looks! I even bought power knobs for the two BG5000 I just purchased. But 10-15 yards less in casting distance I cannot ignore. If it was only 5 yards then I would have kept the reel but 10-15 yards will make a huge difference in your success catching your dinner and plus. In my opinion, all Diawa has to do is redesign the spool and that would improve the casting ability making it competitive with other reels even Long casting reels.

Also figured out how to break the piscifun rod you and Josh couldn't break. Use 15-25lb test line, I bet you'll snap that sucker in twain.

Chaucer Faux we were actually using 65lb braid on that rod. It was INSANE! If you can save up the reel is worth the money, I promise you that.

Hi what do you think about the magsealed version of daiwa bg? price is a little higher but is it really worth it to buy the magsealed?
@tlb38555 жыл бұрын
Evrim KÖKMEN iv the bg magsealed n it’s 100% worth the extra money 👍🏻

I think it depends on the type of Fishing that you are doing. If you are surf fishing absolutely, but if your chances of getting the reel wet are low than no just go with the normal one.

The size are different from daiwa reel for example the daiwa 3000 is like a shimano 4000 size reel or the daiwa 2500 is like the Shimano 3000 daiwa reel size are more like 1 step above the competitor reels
@CaptChrisCanning6 жыл бұрын
KhmerHarry I fully agree with this statement, they’re definitely bigger, but they have such a good drag system!

I know this is a saltwater reel but will it still excel in freshwater bass fishing?
@CaptChrisCanning5 жыл бұрын
A smaller one yes! Little heavier than your normal bass fishing reel. But will last forever!

Noah get the 2500. Same reel but it's a more ideal size. Perfect for bass

Great review! I just bought a BG 2500 for bass fishing ponds and lakes. Now I’m trying to find a good $100 range rod to pair with it 🤔. Any suggestions?

Chris Canning thanks man, I’ve heard of those! U think 7’ Medium Fast action would work well for 3/8 oz swim jigs and Texas rigs?

Womb Raider yes, 7’ M XF Shimano SLX. I really like it so far, it’s really light weight, super sensitive
