Favorite set up I have is my BG 2500 and TD Sol rod for inshore trout and drum. I was so surprised and pleased with the performance of both the rod and reel. Looks like an MQ might just be the next purchase.

Keep in mind you will need to send out the MQ if it needs service. That's why I stuck with my BGs. I could see the Certate or Saltiga being sent out for service but not for a reel less than $300

My BG8000 spooled with 100 lb braid is an incredibly effective pier/beach setup. Fairly certain that I'll never find anything better. BG fanboy for life.

The only thing I have a problem with the MQ for the BG is not being able to service it myself so I'll stick with my regular BGs.

Ohh no doubt! The MQ reels are a work of craftsmanship but I would only send out the Certate or Saltiga for service. I can't see sending a reel for less than $300 out for service.

Do the MQ have less line capacity comparing to the black and gold BG? I'm looking at the BG MQ 14000 and it can only spool 280 y of 80 lb braid. That is much less than the BG 8000 (440 y of 80lb braid)

I think BG SW it is just JDM version of old BG. Only the sizes have been changed to match the new size range.

I Have 2 BG 4000 and still working. Jigging, casting in open ocean for fish under 10kg. Works great. When I have money I go for the BG mq 6000.

I am deeply in love with my BG MQ 3000 my wife just got me for Father’s Day ! I thought my Fuego 2500 was amazing but it is arguably the best reel I’ve ever used so far . It is so new still so I’m waiting to hang a monster with it . But I’ve been catching fat 12 and 13 in mangrove snapper for breakfast every Saturday morning . Those fat 11+ inch snapper get mean and put a nice fight . Waiting to hang a nice snook or red on the rod . It will come . I’m blown away by my MQ .

@@Saltstrong I am a Daiwa lifer now because of you guys always sharing and putting the information out . I started out with a Saltist 4500 beef cake reel I reeled in and found . Cleaned it up , pressure wash , wire brush , etc and still have that reel and set up with the same braid that was on it when I reeled it in from the mud that day like 3 yrs ago . Then went Fuego then BG MQ. My life has been changed . So thank you Salt Strong

Last month I just bought the HIGHLY RECOMMENDED by SaltStrong Fuego 2500 on the HIGHLY RECOMMENDED by SaltStrong TFO 7’6” Medium Fast rod. 1st day worked great once I got past the wind knots, 2nd day I noticed a little click when retrieving line and a little harder to reel, yesterday the damn thing would almost not reel at all. Pulled the spool, sprayed with water, a little easier but last night couldn’t get it to reel in at all even with the spool off. Sending it back. May do the Stradic

A few of the tech geeky Guys (who tear down reels) claim there is a flaw on the MQ when it comes to sealing. Namely the screw/fixing on the plate opposite the handle. They say it kind of negates the excellent sealing on the rest of the reel. Anyway the less expensive 'regular' BG seems a great reel.

I just both of these reels. I can say I am dissapointed in the mq. Noisy and feels a little grindy and it is brand new. I will be sending it back. The bg though is smooth and not no where near as noisy. Is the grindy noisy normal for the mq ?

It's because of the fat gearset. Sometimes they don't mesh perfectly out of the box, but do wear in 4 5 months down the road.

@@Jritchey1211 how much is daiwa paying you? The BG mq isn't all its touted to be. For that 200+ range it reaches into penn slammer and shimano saragosa money. Could even make a case for competing against the larger sized spheros who is the runt child of the saragosa. The stradic SW is in the same price range aswell. We all know saragossas have legendary status for their durability and have ipx8 ratings. Also why does daiwa have soo many reels competing in a similar price range: Ssaltist, ballistic, BG MQ, back bay. Really dumb in my opinion.

My statement is simply based on my on the water experience. I have wonderful things to say about other brands too (Shimano, Penn, Florida Fishing Products, even 13 Fishing). From what I gather, your engagement is based on either 1 of 2 things: 1.) You have a personal dislike of this brand for X, Y or Z reason or 2.) You're unhappy, and just like to feed into negativity. Otherwise, why comment at all? It accomplishes nothing in the grand scheme of things. Honestly, that's fine either way. You're entitled to your opinion. All I can share is my personal experience. I guess the reels for the US are not the same as for Europe. The reels for Europe are bad. So BG or BG MQ is the same. Bad quality. Play in the crank, misaligned gears, rubbing noise. For less than $500, you're not getting anything good. Only the high end is good, made in Japan but very expensive.
