"Blind purge" is what my entire house is currently missing. I will need to try that.

Everything you've said is so true. I have plastic tubs to the ceiling. I know how easy it is to keep collecting stuff that would look good in a junk journal, but then I never use them. I actually found a charity that takes stuff and I was so happy to get rid of it all. The company was so over whelmed with my hoard from my scrapooking days. I still have heaps of things but they are the pretty stuff for my journals. Thankyou for your utube, it has opened my eyes.

I understand that there are 2 types of people in the world: Savers and throw-away ers. I am a saver and think the word "purge" is a bad word. All my ephemera is alphabetized in a big file drawer. Don't feel the need to get rid of it, but I understand that there are many people like you in the world. To each his own, but for me, organization is the key to not being overwhelmed. Take care! 😊

Thank you- watching this finally light my fire. I finally got it together thanks to you. I’ve gotten rid of at least 3 full kitchen bags that went to dumpster. I don’t have 3 totes- but it’s very limited Gave a friend a big stack of paper. I even threw out stuff that was sentimental that had a negative triggers the whole tote. Thank you 😊😊

Thanks for sharing your tips! My magazine clippings hoard and various other ephemera hoard is highly out of hand and I am honestly tempted to do a blind purge and basically start over with a system like this in place. This video has been very inspiring to see!

Great channel. I'm a reseller, have built up a moderately sizable store on eBay specializing in ephemera, though I started with old books. Was a hobby business, but selling what I already love proved to be worthwhile and I have been able to go professional. It is great to be able experience the hidden, forgotten, and unusual history that lies within ephemera, be it from the 40s or the 1880s. Its a way to connect with the past that is unbiased.

I'm just getting started in this space. But after binging on other creators my first conclusion is some of these folks have way too much and even if they stopped buying today they would not be able to create with everything even if they did a project a day! So I have decided I need to have two or three themes for the quarter (that's where I'm starting) and not clip or buy anything that isn't part of those themes. When I clip from books and magazines if it doesn't fall into those predetermined themes I leave it in its original source and when I'm done harvesting that source I will put it away until my next harvest. I like the idea of sorting and putting things in front and then getting rid of what's in the back. I also like your idea of passing along what you don't use to the next artist. Your trash is their treasure.

Hidden box(es!!!!) hahahaha - yip hand shot up here. The other day when I was doing a project I didn't even go through any of the stored ephemera collection (much too time consuming) but went straight to new magazines to look for images. Definitely a very timely video.

I'm a little late watching this, life has been super busy. Thanks for your help with this Roxanne. I recently went through all of this ephemera& sentimental stuff that I've been storing for YEARS.... I was able to condense it all into 3 small boxes in decreasing sizes. I don't get to journal often so I needed covered storage. This really makes it all so much easier to work with. Thanks again Roxanne!

What causes it is the sheer volume of new stuff coming out constantly. Back in thr early 80's when I started cross stitching, new stuff didn't come out as often. There were a couple of monthly magazines, but new pattern books didn't come out as often as craft supplies do now. My entire cross stitch supplies fit into 2 medium size storage tubs. My scrapbook supplies are a whole other story. I have way too much. I learned early on, tho, that if I didn't buy something that caught my eye that it'd probably be gone if I came back to get it a week or so later.

So happy I found this! I have a stash, larger than I'd like to admit, and I don't always have time to art journal because I'm always doing some other craft or working. I really like the system that you set up for yourself and I hope to apply a similar system for myself and pare down my stash and start creating again. 😊

I got rid of all my ephemera a few years ago and that felt SO GOOD. Since then, I don't collect any physical ephemera, but a few digital files I print if I need a ledger or a nice vintage letter. That's it. The rest is my own ephemera, that I create with stamps and inks and I enjoy it so much!

I watched this in the past and I purged my papers. It felt amazing!!! It is time to purge again because they so easily add up! #paperhoarder I am thinking I should use this system for every supply I have. Give it a dedicated space and not go past that space. One bin for magazines that need to be clipped, one bin for coloring books, etc. Inspired to destash and organize! I thrift shop and the deals that can be found on supplies is too crazy that it can be hard to pass up! $20 paints for $2, lol. Maybe a no spend is in order. Haha. 😂

I really ❤ this idea. Since I am limited on space. I think instead of 3 bins I will use 3 Pouches of different sizes S, M, L. This way I can file them on a shelf or drawer and they will take up minimal space. I think the blind purge will help, as well. I’ll see how this works for a bit and tweak it if needed. Thank you so much for sharing.

I have adopted the three bin system. I have two small take away containers that would hold cold slaw that I use for my small pieces one for the cut out words I use in my work and one for the small pieces. I too keep scrapbook paper separate. Love the open system as it calls me to create when I see it. Thanks for sharing your tips and tricks. 💕🐞💕

Hi this came across my feed! I hope this 17 minute video will teach me something I’ve never heard , of😂 I’ve spent too many hours which probably equate to months, at the least. I have to create in a super small space. And consolidated ALL the paper into one centre like Marie Kondo to see how much 😮 i have. Yet, haven’t purged yet. - Until i finally got the perspective to change…. It isn’t happening…. Next step to PURGE. By bun , your system sounds like mine is now. Chalked full in those huge bins! Happy arting and journaling!

Well as a former michaels employee, I have more like a 5 bin system... like the 12x12 iris cases. BUT in comparison to how bad it used to be, i have improved and don't expand beyond that. I even donated a ton recently making an employee recognition board at work. This whole video i wanted you to stand up so I could see the rest of your shirt! I've been itching to re-watch midsommar but my boyfriend was like, "why?" 🙄 Anyway, thanks for sharing! I like seeing how other people manage their stuff. Have a good one.

I guess each person needs to decide what "container" that they need to stop at. Your container is those 3 bins. My container is my craft room. The art and craft supplies cannot grow beyond my craft room or I have to stop buying and work on more projects. I would NEVER do a blind purge to start over on any of my crafts though. I do have some boxes of random stuff I keep "just in case" but that's a minimal part of my stash. My mom has been giving me a lot of her craft stuff as she gets older, luckily she has good taste and it's all quality materials I can use.

@thaliacommins1174

This is perfect! I do have a question, I separate my ephemera (large, small and DAMN small) Do you consider things sentimental part of that OR are you good at quickly doing stuff with...ticket stubs, love notes, scribbles that your kid drew? because THAT is another bin for me!!
@bybun
@bybun 2 жыл бұрын
Oh yeah…sentimental stuff goes into a small pouch that I have, that then gets put into my planner journal 👍 but similar mindset with that: it’s one small container, and I have to empty it out every so often (by journaling/junk journaling with it)
@adrianaduff2740

With my 4 kiddos, each one has a binder with polypropylene sleeves. When sentimental things come home, it goes directly into their sleeve. Every once in awhile, the kids can weed out. It’s been easy for us.
