Americans have been building cars in China for decades and at one point almost had the market to themselves. They made BILLIONS of dollars off of the Chinese people. But they did not learn anything while they were there and as usual refused to shift with market as the people there moved to smaller and more affordable EV’s. Smaller Chinese manufacturers took advantage of that opportunity and filled the gaps. They learned and figured out how to make good and compelling cars that people wanted and did it for a price that was less than the Buicks, Jeeps, and Chevrolets that the Americans were selling. GM and Chrysler execs were popping bottles of champagne thinking that the gravy train would go on forever and that they could fleece them like they do their American customers, but now they are in shock when companies like BYD, Geely, Zeekr, X-Peng, Lynk & Co., Chery, Li Auto, and so on, can build better cars that people actually want to buy at prices that people can afford. American car companies can sell cars in China and have been for decades, it’s not BYD’s fault that they squandered their opportunities to make affordable cars and decided to focus on squeezing every person for everything they can get from them. BYD makes a few hundred dollars of profit from the sale of a 13,000 EV and they are ok with that, an American car company wouldn’t even bother because they would rather make $20,000 in profit selling a truck. Asian culture thinks in longer terms. They think 50 years ahead and not next year. That buyer of the $13,000 affordable car becomes loyal to the brand long-term if that car serves them well and they are taken care of while owning that car. It is what cars like the Chevy Cavalier used to do for Chevrolet, the Shadow used to do for Dodge and the Escort used to do for Ford, bring new, young, lower income buyers in and make them loyal to your brand.

wrong, Chinese do not think at all. They are all told what to do by their Communist leadership. Every January 1, they are ordered where to show up for the new job they are assigned to do. The only reason US autos were allowed in China and sold there was so the Communists could learn how to make them, and maintain them. That now done, they are trying to take over free markets. In China, only the party elite have nice cars. Everyone else is forced into those cheap cars you speak of, it is not what the workers want at all. They get no choice. That market takeover in other countries must be stopped, in our collective national defense. Sorry, but your rosy story about the glory of China is a real turd when you turn over a shovel full of it.

BYD is not your enemy. Everybody’s enemy is bad management at Stellantis. There are two choices, no Stellantis and no jobs or BYD-Stellantis (maybe someone else) with some jobs. The reality is BYD will be here and will be making and selling cars plus making and selling batteries. BYD already has a planned factory in Mexico, from which they will export to the US, exactly like GM and Ford. I wonder why they would want a dog like Stellantis with archaic factories and UAW commitments. Maybe they are just bottom fishing to see what they can get cheap.
@brabblemaster401Ай бұрын
They shouldn't be. There should be zero Chinese companies in America. We didn't have Soviet companies during the cold war, so why do we allow Chinese companies during the new cold war. If we cut trade from China off they would suffer greatly, we would suffer for a time until we switch manufacturing to other nations or in the US again. But China wouldn't have a way to recover. Their upper class is extremely dependent on export money and their lower class is to poor to purchase enough goods to sustain their manufacturing base. So yes BYD and Stellantis can both be our enemy

It’s a big world and a car company has to compete globally. “Made only in the USA,” “Sold only in the USA”- that’s bankruptcy before you even get to that point. How about understanding how the Chinese system is beating the American system at everything?! Start by avoiding the American propaganda channels and find the truth. Those young Chinese workers will have better care in their old age, than American workers. Guaranteed. But that realization is probably a “bridge too far” for many of your viewers.

Why would they want to purchase old outdated factories filled with old production equipment that has proven to not be able to produce vehicles at a profit. Add on top of that those factories come with existing labor issues. It would be easier, cheaper, faster to simply build their own factory in Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia... You know, in areas that Honda and Toyota already chose.... As far as plants in Michigan, if parts of Stellantis are sold off, I predict that any of those plants in Michigan will simply be closed and written off instead of sold to anyone to continue production.

The problem in the US is to get skilled workers enough to a large car factory. In Michigan you already have the workers at the Chrysler plant, it’s just a matter of retooling the plant, not a problem for the Chinese since they have built many modern car factories the last decade.
@bjcouche129 күн бұрын
@@remix-yy1hs I'd guess that any plant, even non automotive plant workers could join the UAW. Ive been to lots of plants doing Automation work, Ford, Dodge, GM, Honda, Toyota.etc. I've observed that the Honda and Toyota plants are mostly non union and not in Michigan. Honda and Toyota plants compared to the Detroit 3 are: cleaner, better illuminated, and overall a more enjoyable place to work. The workers seemed to be more willing to help each other and work as a team, and seemed to take more pride in their work. More break rooms were located closer together so employees don't have to walk across the plant to use the restroom. I don't understand how people can say that an automotive worker is a skilled labor that requires extensive training. An assembly line worker is simply bolting the same bumper or body panel on every 60 seconds. They are not doing bondo work or painting the cars. If you retool the plant, the workers also need retraining for new or different tasks / tools. I feel the advantage of building a plant farther south in areas of lower income or lower costs of living is that if you offer a high wage, a job at that plant would be highly sought after, and those lucky to land a job there would be appreciative to have it and work hard to keep it.

Congress is doing something. They have already done a lot. They have created this problem. They wrote the laws and the tax codes that doomed our workers. It is not the US car company engineers or the rank and file assemblers at fault. It is the top executives of the car companies, top union bosses and congress itself. All of the persons in those groups already know the facts I am about to reveal. First of all, most every significant country in the world fund their national government with Value Added Tax (vs income tax) as its dominant method for taxation. This is to protect their workers and taxpayers. That of course includes China, Germany, Japan and most all others. This is why we run trade deficits to these countries. Trade deficits give the countries that export to us the opportunity to take our wealth and prevent us from getting theirs. America has been getting steadily poorer for some time due to trade losses. The US doesn’t even rank in the top 20 countries in the world for standard of living, a list we used to be at the top. The China auto retail market sales passed us up years ago, they are number one now. They get the money, we get the stuff, and the stuff wears out. They however have the money, so they wisely invest. VAT does not punish investment like income tax does. If they buy Chrysler (with what used to be our money), they will not make the cars in the US for very long. Look at a street in Tokyo, do you see as US made car? No, because of VAT. Income tax is easy to get around for the rich elites, VAT is hard to cheat. Congress continues to punish honest US workers and companies for earning, the successful countries focus on domestic (their country’s) consumption with VAT. A car exported from the US pays taxes in both countries, a car imported to the US pays primary tax in neither. It’s just the way congress has devised it to be. Your congress person knows this, interesting she didn’t mention it. Hmm.

The fall of great American automakers is coming from clueless lawmakers who don’t know a thing about cars and don’t give a shit about them either. They just view cars as transportation. They think they can sell off brands to China and Europe and nothing will change. They think they can force automakers to have a 100mpg average fleet wide by 2030 and that’s just fine. They already succeeded in killing Dodge. The Hemi, one of the greatest American combustion engines of all time, is dead. The Dodge challenger and charger are now an AWD, 4 door electric vehicle. Dodges profits are down 48% this quarter and the CEO of Stellantis’s response is that he will happily kill off any brand that doesn’t make a profit. So first he destroyed Dodge by getting rid of their best selling cars, and they he’s gonna justify killing the brand by saying that Dodge isn’t making any money 🤦🏻♂️ It’s a crime. You know what he said he believes Americans want out of the Dodge brand? In exchange for market access we gave them all the technologies that are now coming back to bite us in the backside. It is a good example of how short termism is destroying a civilization. When you look at the history it is always the same story decadent elites favour short term gains/amusement over the future prosperity and at a certain point the system collapses. Unless you start a revolution that gets rid of all the elites there is nothing you can do just lean back and have as much fun as you can get. People from Michigan should ask themselves what other choices do they have before freaking out. The German tried to save Chrysler, but failed. The Italian tried it too, but failed. Now the French tried it too, but failed too. Well, don’t expect the Japanese car makers are interested in taking over Chrysler, cause they are in deep trouble too. TATA Group from India may be another option, but look at Jaguars and Landrover cars, do you see any improvement in terms of reliability issues over these years? I guess the only option left is for the Chrysler’s workers to take over if they do not want any Chinese company taking over. Otherwise, just shut down Chrysler and no one win.

I remember during one of Trump's speeches. He said, he welcomes Chinese to build factories in the US or he will triple the Tariff tax. This includes auto. The speech was from 7-22-24 I went and found the video on KZbin when he said this. 😮

@andrewscott8892Ай бұрын
He was talking about how they are trying to build the factories in Mexico and import them over the border tariff free. I definitely agree we don't want them here at all but that train may have already left the station when our politicians allowed our manufacturing base to be shipped overseas(of course it's a lot more complicated and a way longer story them that)

Chrysler,, GM and Ford have lost their global market, it is a slow death. All 3 do not have the software systems, and the battery tech to build EVs, and will takes years to catchup, not sure how long they can last while making losses . The new EV factories are fully automated with robots, few ICE jobs will survive with these new factories.

BYD brings in jobs. Jobs is jobs
@aberobinson1Ай бұрын
These jobs in the battery plants don't pay much. They don't give you a whole 40 hours a week. And they want you working this bull shit called 'continental shifts' but the government keeps giving the South Korean battery manufacturers more free land to build battery plants.
@georgewilder7423Ай бұрын
So battery plants don't pay much.. So what's the difference between working there and working at Walmart, McDonald's or Burger King or other places that only pay minimum rates. To some people a job is income and if you don't like it nobody's forcing you to accept the job. I think half a loaf is better than no loaf, until something else comes along.

BYD makes a large number of gasoline engine cars. So their low-priced cars will take over the whole bottom of the market. What has been stopping the Chinese from entering is the lack of car dealership locations and car parts warehousing and established distribution contracts. As a new car maker, they would have to deal with every city trying to soak them with onerous contracts. So, by taking over established dealership locations and established service center locations, the BYD corp sidesteps the need to negotiate for new facility locations and to make concessions.
@kirkjohnson6638Ай бұрын
Every company that makes ICE vehicles is ahead of BYD because EVs are a dying experiment. When new safe batteries are developed AND the US power grid is upgraded by about 50% to handle AI facilities and EV charging needs, then EVs will actually take off.

100% automation is coming to every factory and the lights can literally be turned off. That's the big problem. We can't act like Luddites and smash the robotics. There's no turning back from automation. It won't matter who owns the factories. They may all close when no one has money to buy what's being produced.

Makes me appreciate the Japanese. It’s amazing how over time your worst fear ( Japanese in the 80s ) become you biggest friend and asset against a worse situation. America learned a lot in the 80s from Japanese manufacturing that benefited us in the long run . American cars are better than 30-40 years ago, although I feel the Japanese still have the edge on quality control. In reality there is no such thing as a purely American or Japanese made car. Parts are manufactured all over the world now. Assembled in Japan or America is more like it. Keep Chinese ownership as far away as possible. Maybe Elon can help out. I would buy a Tesla dodge hybrid. On a Nissan owned by Honda eventually 😅

Our representation in congress is essentially on par with being represented by a public defender. As i said in a previous post...BYD bringing affordable cars to the US market is the one and only thing that will force us automakers to return to making affordable cars again. If us automakers continue with the way they are only making fully loaded, expensive cars then they deserve to go out of business. They're hurting the little guy and the economy with the way their doing business currently.

I've been watching all these in the comfort of my office in China. When I read all the responses to this clip and to the previous one that said Elon wanted to block BYD from buying Chrysler, I LOL Guys, this is but the latest GO move from the Chinese --- their purpose is to force Elon to purchase Chrysler and then to be burdened by everything Chrysler brings (the unions, the inefficient factories, the old mindset, whatnots), plus, they want Elon to pay *TOP PRICE* for Chrysler, further reducing Elon's ability to compete elsewhere, such as Starlink and Space-X (where the Chinese are focusing their next push) I've been in China for over 20 years, I understand their way of thought (mind you, most of them have 130+ IQ) and I can see how you guys have been tricked, through and through
@glenndjubileeАй бұрын
I agree with you that this is pretty shady, but I have a question also. The industry in this country right now is in pretty bad shape. No one’s buying these pick up trucks that are decaying on dealers lots. The US battery technology is way behind. so the question is as advanced in battery technology has BID building a factory here how is that a bad thing? It’ll put US workers to work. And will give us a bump and battery technology because I have to share if they’re gonna build a factory here. And they’re not going to a bunch of Chinese workers. They’re going to hire Michiganders. You think so?
