BYD Seal vs MG4 - Which one did I buy as my first electric car?

I know what you mean. I just collected my Seal. Yes it's so smooth and quiet that I still cannot get used to coming from ICE petrol car.

Haha.... that's due to my OCD I think. I still miss my Civic. It's a much lighter and more agile car compared to my new BYD Seal.

​@@_Sensei_88 The simple jaw-dropping reason is that I bought the BYD Seal to save money. I did my math and with government incentive plus petrol savings, I will have a better car with better value in a few years. Sold my Civic while I can still get good value out of it, and I know ice cars when they reach 8-9 years and 90k-100k mileage will start to become a money pit. Civic has been a great car for me and I serviced it (~$350) regularly once every year, and there are no issues at all. Love the RS turbo engine because it's both an economy petrol engine (7l/100km) and the 174 hp is there when I rev and step on it.

Same experience for me: I love the look of the MG4 but the Seal Dynamic blows the essence 64 away. The Seal sound system is also very good

The Dynamic Seal (base model) does not have leather seats only the Premium and Performance.

@SkyPerspective just some trivia Australia is one of the omly few markets to get leather trim other markets get synthetic! on all variants.

They all have leather seats one has Imitation leather and the other has Genuine leather. In the video he didn't specify Imitation or Genuine he just said leather, so its right.

Simple lah......Seal hands down. Their battery can also be charged up 100% no worries. Also there's quite a few BYD taxis in China approaching a million mileage only with 20% battery degradation.

your info is incorrect MG4 64 has NMC battery, only the base 51 kwh is LFP....

Good comparison! Agreed the Seal is more like a Mercedes inside, LFP battery and lots of the pluses. The MG4 by comparison looks like a $40k car inside. I have a Seal Premium on order for the bigger battery, HUD, more powerful engine, 360 degree camera.

When I tried to make decision between Dolphin premium and mg4, exactly same conclusion. MG4 cut a lot of corners. But i like the look. Once Seal open the order, it became no brainer and ordered Seal Dynamic. Now VIN out and sorting out with Orix. Hopefully in a few days.

Congrats. I got my Seal for a few days now. Loving it. Thanks for sharing your story. Don't you mind Seal is a sedan while MG4 and Dolphins are hatch? Usually people going for Dolphin won't go for Seal.

Alot has changed in 11 months, the 64 MG4 is now about $10,000 cheaper than the Seal Dynamic brand new driveaway.

Thanks for the update. Oh wow, $10k. That's a lot cheaper, which is good, makes the price a lot more attractive. I think that's what MG needs to do anyway, and I hope my video has got nothing to do with them lowering the price. 😜

This is a very interesting video to see from an American perspective. The main cars to consider here are way different. That was also a nice catch on seat adjustment, as I honestly haven't seen a recent car that wasn't either 8 way or saving money with 4 way, so I would have missed that weird 6 way detail

bit of a David vs Goliath event, to me the MG4 is a city car, BYD Seal to me is a family car that can be great both in City and inter city travel

Yes that's right. I compared them because of both their similar prices. MG4 can be a good family car too because of its hatchback, great for beach-goers too.

Great video, I made the same comparison and while to me the MG4 had marginally better handling, for everything else the Seal blows it out of the water. In fact I dont think there isn't anything in Australia that comes close to the Seal Dynamic in terms of it's price to features and refinement.

Yes that's true. MG4 is smaller hence easier to handle.

You’re slightly off the mark re the seats. The base model BYD has synthetic leather (vinyl) seats. If you’re comparing it to the Essence 64 to get features such as heated seats, the MG4 range actually drops to 435km, 25km less than the BYD. Big thing that will be important is NMC batteries in all MG4 models above 51kw, while the BYD is LFP range wide and the heat pump on the BYD (not on any Australian MG4s) should help range further on very hot summer days

different price point in Australia the difference in prices $15,000 so that shows in the features so either going to be budget conscious or if you’ve got the money go for the bells and whistles

The 10k difference is a lot for me but I really do prefer the Seal’s interior so I should start saving up. Our current car is the 2012 Corolla so it’s quite dated 😅
