BYD stock was under pressure for two years as Warren Buffett would not stop selling regardless of price. He had 20% of the HK stock. Now his holding has gone to zero. No more stock to sell. He did his best to stop the rise of BYD. Imperialist at heart like many. The stock is moving to it's intrinsic value as buyers out number sellers

Now we know why BYD is doing so well. According to Munro Live tear down of BYD Shark…..BYD over built and over engineered the shark. Using too much steel for strengthening the chassis like a bloody tank in passenger protection and yet still cost cheaper than Hilux and Ranger!!

Hi! Note that the Chinese currency is the "yuan" or the "renmimbi." The "yen" is the Japanese currency. Thanks for the analysis of BYD. I'm surprised at what you've said about BYD software. Doing everything in-house has worked out well for Tesla and a few other companies.

Interestingly, Chinese, Japanese, and Korean currency all originates from the same Hanzi/Kanji/Hanja 圓 - and they diverged to not cause confusion. Among all big 3 private Chinese car makers, BYD is probably the second weakest in terms of ADAS / software, despite all other excellence. It sorta worked, but responds roughly and wildly - which is pretty dangerous. I turned it off, except for the lane keeping and parking assists. Geely clearly leads - and probably thanks to its Meizu ownership, who develop the software for them. I'm not familiar with GWM - but the Ora gets good rap among Europeans about its ADAS. Smaller players like Xpeng, Li Auto, and others who uses Huawei-derived systems outperformed BYD's active safety systems. Clearly - it is either BYD catching up on its own (which still to yield results) or look externally (quicker) - Sam is westerner, and rather impatient, so that's why he chose the latter. Not wrong, not right, but each of us has our own views and priorities.

Your comment might be a bit too much on the emotional side, but this is true - and has been true of U.S. stocks in general for decades. The reason: liquidity and the status of the U.S. Dollar as de facto world's reserve currency. People are ready to overpay for U.S. stocks because they feel that they'll be able to sell without a problem when needed - there will be buyers. Then, it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. Of course, all bubbles are essentially built on self-fulfilling prophecies, but they always burst MUCH later than one would try to predict. In other words, the U.S. market has been in a bubble for decades, but will likely continue to do so, unless Donald REALLY wrecks it. Even though I absolutely HATE the guy (I am Canadian of French origin!), I am not sure I am ready yet to bet against U.S. over-valuation.

The way I see self driving playing out is not having a car you own that chauffeurs you around but negating the need to own a car altogether. I can envision a world where you have a membership to a variety of cars that are spread around cities, in the various neighborhoods, and you order up a car within 10 or 15 minutes of when you want to leave and then when you walk out the door, it is sitting in your driveway (all warmed up or cooled down depending on the weather). You can drive it normally or you can have the car assist you if needed. You would pay a fee based on how often you need to use it. When you arrive at your location it returns to the neighborhood storage area where it is charged up for the next person, or it goes into valet mode and drops you off at the front door of where you need to go and then goes and finds a parking spot while you go do your shopping.

Way faster. 5 minutes. And you won't need a membership but just order it like a regular taxi...only without a driver and with way more accurate finding (using satellite, WLANs and mobile networks). Robotaxis are partially already a reality in China and South Korea. You can use them being a child, to transport, animals, goods from A to B, while being intoxicated, injured, pregnant...Robotaxi can even inform nearest hospital and send it crucial information while driving you there. In general Robotaxis also will asses the situation on the street, call authorities and emergency and communicate with each other. Also: overall traffic will become more fluid and faster while the vehicles will drive slower and intelligent. Lights and signs won't be needed...maybe only some for the passengers so they know where they are.

@ I will be in Guangzhou next week for a few days and I plan on taking one if I can figure out the AutoNavi app. If they can figure out driving in China's crazy traffic, it should work everywhere. They may have to make adjustments for each country's driving styles, some of which are pure chaos like where I live. :)

Well I've only seen huawei's self driving which is super impressive. Don't know anything about momenta other than everyone is partnering with them but that can't mean anything given that this happened way back when all these systems sucked. And in contrast with momenta, there's actually driver youtube videos of the huawei cars. So, that gives me zero confidence in momenta and this byd announcement. Similarly haven't seen any driver videos with the nvidia orin chip which momenta uses, it all sounds like a bunch of colabs with too many cooks and nvidia hasn't really done anything impressive in ai themselves
