I think she went through many takes, at least 20, before getting to this version that was released. Could be just be tired. Still adds a feel to the song you won't hear in today's singers.

I agree, the song "I Don't Want To Take A Chance" deserved a place on the "Greatest Hits" LP.Being that this was the first release on Motown, this was apparently their early design until the blue "map" label became standard.

Hi christheone8773, you're correct on the early "map" label, however, the Detroit star is still on the right hand side as it was on the later design.
@christheone877315 жыл бұрын
I had read somewhere that before the famous "map" design was adopted, a different map design was used that showed more cities (actually the midwestern part of the US, and the Detroit star was on the left side of the label, as opposed to the RIGHT side-

Hey Steve, Happy New Year!, No, "Strange Love" is not included on this album, but I do have the single and will post it for you. Steve.

This is officialy the first time I've seen this LP with its' original first pressing label...WOW! Interesting! It's also interesting to note that even though after moving to Los Angeles the company never changed the "map design" labels. Motown spent more years In Los Angeles than they did in Detroit. The act that recorded for the label that logged in the most weeks at #1 with their singles is Boys II Men during the '90s--surprisingly!

I have often wondered why "I Dont Want To Take A Chance" was never included on her "Greatest Hits" album - also, its kind of strange to see the first Motown label that wasn't the "map and the star indicating Detroit" design-

You hit it on the nail, as she wrote this sing for Jackie Wilson to song but Berry had her do the song as Berry Gordy said this himself.

The 45 was okay but when she performed it live, particularly during this appearance at the Apollo in 1962, she rocked the house! Take a listen: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mmKTn4qPqM6IbZI.

I sort of like this label design better than the famous blue label with Michigan map they used for decades.

@ Kjchicago1 the hoarse voice is what makes her sound even better.

This song was not right for her voice. Good thing Smokey was able to compose other tunes to fit her middle register.
@tonyrussi77772 жыл бұрын
all instruments & singers recorded at the same time. If a guitar was off or piano, they had to start over. Mary wrote this song for Jackie Wilson, but when Mr. Gordy heard her sing it, he said No, you are a real singer!
