We did this play in High School in the late 60's and I played Birdie and I wish I could have played the guitar but I really enjoyed this play. I was kind of an introvert and scared of singing in front of classmates but I pushed myself to get the role. Eastbrook H.S. in Grant Co., Indiana

@Elly Reinald Jesse Pearson is brilliant as Conrad Birdie! This movie came out before The Beatles hit the global limelight, but just a few years after Elvis went into the Army, when it was still fresh in the public's memory. So, the timing of the Bye Bye Birdie production was perfect! Jesse Pearson did odds and ends acting assignments after this movie. But he was born to play Conrad Birdie!

Wasn't he the greatest?! The way he swiveled, snarled and sang was hilarious! I wonder if Elvis ever saw the movie. I loved his rendition of "Sincere", or as he put it, "Sin-cee-ahh" Great comedy fun!

. this is always good to watch , reading the comments , pat rick , pointed out the reason the mayor fainting wasn't scripted , it was caused by fatigue , due to carrying his wife take after take , after re watching , I always was curious of the reason of the zoom in when Conrad come into Completion ( sorry couldn't help it ) it seems that it Occurs Precisely at the same point the mayor goes down , I always interpreted it as censorship , in that era , like when Elvis Presley was only filmed from the belt up , on the Edd Sullivan show because his Gyrations was to sexual for that time , for a male anyway .
