Terrible luck with your tractor, hearing you story I decided to tell our similar story. Like you we were using our tractor out in the paddock with our fertiliser spreader on the back. Next thing smoke started coming from underneath the tractor at the back, because of the cab my son could not see the fire. By the time he exited the cab and went behind to check the Fendt was well alight. It burnt the rear end and cab completely as well we lost the rear tyres, the fertiliser spreader surprisingly was not badly damaged, it was steel not plastic. The engine block and the rest of the front was OK. Our guess was electrical it was around 20 years old but a handy tractor. Hope all works out well for you, it is a blessing having good neighbours. From Down Under.

I'm sure this was electrical thanks for your well wishes

Seems quite a few tractors and combines poof up in smoke anymore.. cheap wiring and the exhaust BS..... Insurance is always fun to deal with.. Always the darned cab area where it starts, too many tractors seen at the wreckers with "parts virtually OK as for rear end, transmission, engine and front axle" but the cab & instrument panel toasted to death. To me they look like like models, doesn't matter the brand, from end 90's and ahead i.e. when the electronic rage/race really started in our tractors. Does heavy trucks burn as much? I don't think so. Good luck and I wish you all the strength in the replacement process 💪👍

Reminds me of when Wes/OLF cooked his 4960. Yours burnt a lot more though. Hate that it happened, but look at it on the bright side, nobody got hurt, it wasn't in or near a building or structure or hay stack area. I saw that happen to a farmer a while back and someone had a good suggestion. Put a master shut off switch close to the batteries, if you have an electrical short and fire, turn the switch off. Then hope you have a fire extinguisher to put the fire out if it isn't out of control already. It may work if that was an electrical fire in the cab.

Too many electronics and wire harnesses on modern tractors. All are an ignition source on equipment operated in harsh environments, stored where mice build flammable nests, and usually covered in combustible chaff. Would having a fire extinguisher available in the cab have saved it? 50/50 chance on that.Hopefully the insurance money will make you whole.
