The theme is the whole point of the met gala. Understanding and interpretation of the theme is the minimum for a 75K$ ticket and support of the premier fashion museum in the US. It’s not just a costume party.

The flower bouquet hat, worn by Zendaya, is a Philip Treacy, on loan from his personal collection.

Fun video! My favorite is the Ugbad Abdi one. I think the other reason she can pull it off is bc her figure type in general has a lot of yang. Btw, you may want to know that the video title has a small typo (the ‘ in “Americans”). I think you were right about the Elizabeth Debicki hat & the whole hat & hair look is just too limp. For the Elizabeth Cordry look, I think a large picture hat out of some light-looking material would look great, piled with silk flowers, but to pull that off, I think I would also extend the back of the dress into a train! I really like your lily hat in the new colors, by the way.

Debecki's hair AND dress were awful! What was she thinking?

I truly appreciate all of your input because you have such a professional outlook on the creation of hats, but as to the theme itself, please realize that this is in a celebration of a museum of The art of fashion and costuming so it needed to be a little bit high brow and I think it's only natural that it required a little bit of historical understanding of the theme and also the whole reason for this fundraising event because in the end it was created almost 100 years ago to support this museum. But I love that you took a more fanciful take on the whole event and as you said it is a little pretentious and high brow so much so that I think the theme was lost on many of the guests and designers😊 Loving your channel

Thank you so much! I am so glad you are loving my channel! 😊I think in the UK we have a very different approach to museums and galleries. As most of our museums are free they are curated for everyone to come and enjoy, so exhibitions are always really accessible and anything highbrow is explained in understandable ways.

Totally agree but because the MET has received funding from this event as well as regular ticket sales, they have to make a show of it - which started in the 1930's I believe. You know us Americans have to make a spectacle! Can you believe each ticket to the gala was $75,000!!!!@@ByIlonaMillinery

I LOVED Harris Reed's headpiece! As a part time New Orleanian, my everyday style does give a nod to costuming & I adore novelty hats. Laissez le Bon Temp Rouler!

All true on the hats, but must ask "are there no more hairdressers in the world"??? They insist on the boring straight hanging in hair even if it does not go with the outfit. I love the 40s hair which was structured and dramatic. An elaborate updo would have suited many of these outfits. Come on ladies - get the curlers and gel out sometimes!

Most hats suit hair up more than hair down, but hair down is the modern way, so milliners have had to adapt 🤷‍♀️

@@ByIlonaMillinery Ilona I have a video request! Can you do normal-people summer hat advice? For example, I know that a trilby style does not work for me...I need wide-brimmed hats but I don't know why... Would love to have your expertise to explain how to pick just daily hats for summer in the city 💜 from Italy

Hi, Another brilliant video. Thank you so much. Letting us understand how you see hats, a bit of the technique of millinery and being just even keeled entertaining. As you know I'm not here to become a milliner, but just learn how I can make a hat or more, if and when I have the stamina to do so. One hat type that I saw in this hat parade, that I like the look of a lot, but haven't the faintest idea of how they are made. One, to a lesser extent, that looks a little bit like handkerchief from Dior worn by Rosalia, and the other one isn't square but has the look I'm talking about is the one by Philip Tracy worn by Sarah Jessica Parker. If you at some point would share the secret of how to make those shape, and have them stay that way, I would love to see that. Maybe you already gone over how to shape crin and perhaps organza so they don't loose their shape, and I've missed it. At the moment I'm into a phase where I love the fee hand shaped ilusion looking bri , with a identical but smaller hat inside, and my favorites are the square ones sitting at an angle. Yours, Ann

I love this review of the Met Gala hats! I also love your idea for a hat for Elizabeth Cowdry: and your tips for hat improvements, such as for Lana del Ray's headwear were spot on. I do wish Phillip Treacy's hat for Sarah J Parker didn't obstruct her face so much. Worn slightly further back, it would have looked great on some other guests, many of whom were wearing gold/cream/beige/white colour schemes. But Harris Reed stole my heart with his beautiful outfit which seemed straight off the stage of a baroque opera by Lully or Rameau, he looked ready to perform an aria in front of the Sun King. And it was his hat which took his outfit from beautiful, to stunning. BTW the hat you are wearing in the video suist you perfectly in colour and scale, well done.

I noticed the funeral black chic too - interesting co incidence that it was my fathers funeral this week...i and my mother were the only ones in black. Sadly despite the abundance of older generations presence, I was the only one with headwear on of any kind, not even mourning jewelery. The gala was fun to look at tho, a fun distraction for the week. Nice coverage Ilona!

I loved the harris reed outfit was very very well thought out! The Lana Del Ray woulld have had the same message if the sheer fabric topped and draped asymmetrically on hop of a fascinator base make of fake sticks. it didnt need to cover half her body. The dress is the costume... a hat isnt something the body wears
