My mother lived the “free spirited” life and now I’m paying the bill. She had me with a man who was married to another woman. She’s close to 70 and it’s a heavy burden on me, I feel under a lot of pressure to succeed. She put me in the situation where I’ve had to sacrifice my 20s: I had to hold a job working 50+ hours a week while going to school to get a career. When I’d come home late at night, she’d start to nag and demand that I bring her food and that I had to help her live a comfortable life for the rest of her years. She has no money, couldn’t help me with college after HS. I even have life insurance just in case something happens to me, so she can have some money for the remaining years of her life. It’s all bad, as Kevin and Jordan Peterson have said, women like these try to make their kids the husband they never had. Young women, listen to Kevin. Look for a husband while you’re young, you’re risking too much by delaying it and later on you and your kids will pay the price. Your younger years are your bargaining chip, don’t spend them on the “cock carousel” or you will pay the price later on as you age.

My mom and my dad had me and my brother in their late teens. My mom left my dad in her mind thirties because she thought she could do better as her career was starting to take off and my dad was just an average man. Good hardworking man, great father but obviously not on her "level". Through the next 15 or so years she went through numerous men trying to find that high value man she thought she deserved. During that time her business went broke and I had to lend her money. The HVM never eventuated so in her fifties she ended up "settling" for an average man who was pretty much a clone of the average man she left when she left my dad. By the time this man came into her life she was penniless so he pretty much had to pay out all her debts and take care of her and on top of that she was diagnosed with brain cancer which has left her incapacitated and unable to walk let alone work and have this incredible career she always dreamed of. If it wasn't for this incredible man taking care of her who knows where she would be. I feel so sorry for him because he's given everything to her and it's such a massive burden on his shoulders. He cares for her full time, cleans her, feeds her etc..as her son I feel a deep sense of guilt at not being able to help out more but at the same time I have my own young family to take care of..I feel a sense of resentment towards her because an adult in her fifties shouldn't be broke and burdening other people to take care of them. I get she didn't ask to get sick but I can't help but be resentful at the decisions she made during her life. It's mind boggling some of these women that KS speaks to talking about they deserve something that they really don't. They really do die alone or burdening their kids to take care of them. ..my dad btw remarried a great woman and he is getting ready to retire at the age of 56 with a few houses and more than enough money to live comfortable in retirement. Not bad for someone that isn't "high value"

My mother was exactly like this. Never planned for the future. Refuse to plan for a rainy day. My mother had a massive heart attack at 63 and had to retire. For the next 10 years she had to live off social security and the tiny 401k she had. Her 401k barely had $50K. .The only saving grace she had was that her mortgage was paid off but my mother continued to spend money like she was still working. 10 years later she had a massive stroke and died. She left a ton of credit card debt and unpaid property taxes for me to pay off. Not to mention she had cancelled the home owners insurance without telling me , so for at least 5 years there was no insurance on her home. That age group (60s-70s) have been retiring faster than we can train new workers because the hours are long, the weather in central florida is brutal, and the jobs are quite demanding on the person. Plus even if you do get a job at WDW, the cost of living around the Theme Park areas have exploded. My single mother was a hardworking and capable woman. She is still in shock regarding the laid-off because she believes that she is still young, healthy, and capable. The problem is that companies don't want to hire/keep elders because young ones are quick on their feet, have lower pay rates, in better health (i.e lower health cost, recover quicker, can work longer hours, and can work in harsher environment), easy to train, more flexible, and can work overtime for longer duration.

The crazy part is my sisters mother in law has had multiple husbands/men who made over 6 figures and all she did was cheat on them. Now she’s living at the same complex (thanks to my wife) getting about $800 dollars a month in Social Security. And that’s it. It’s a shame. These women aren’t prepared for the later years at all. I remember years ago this 19yo girl, while talking about marriage and how she's going to be independent. So I said to her, "Then you're marriage will fail." And when she asked me why, I said to her; "Because the definition of the word 'independent' is the exact opposite of the definition of the word 'marriage'."

SS was never supposed to be enough for retirement. It was to supplement a pension and retirement savings. 401k's were developed for a 3 tier retirement (pension, SS, 401K) - that was the way it was 'supposed to be'. In reality, when 401K's become extremely popular (the norm), major corps stopped providing pensions for the average worker.

So I used to have a Disneyland annual pass(only for one year because that’s expensive to maintain), almost all annual pass holders are stuck in mental Fantasyland. They think they have all the time in the word to save up for retirement, accumulate assets and find a spouse while wasting their time AND money at Disneyland. After my pass expired, I decided to save my money instead of spend it. Delayed gratification over instant gratification everyday.
