I say this as a woman who was a steelworker 20 years and then white collar IT at a corporate headquarters for another 10 years. Union wage is comparable to corporate salary unless you are high on the corporate ladder. Otherwise the only difference is most white collar men have a polished veneer. If you've ever shopped for furniture you know exactly what veneer is worth in terms of quality goods. If I were ever accosted on the street I'd pray to be in shouting distance to my blue collar co-workers rather than the white-collar variety. It is an environmental distinction, blue collar job safety requires survival skills: knowledge of your physical capabilities, situational awareness, team-work, and vigilance over others. Those skills become second nature on or off the job. The only time some white collar men make a fist is when holding on to a pencil and physical exertion is likely no more than a spectator sport. Any woman who finds herself a church-going, blue collar, family man has herself a lifetime treasure.

He made a lot of money although I never saw a paycheck in all the years we were married. When our son was grown I left and fell for a man who worked second shift . He treated me like a queen . I did not know that there were men that actually treated their wives so well , I was shocked.
