A Big THANK YOU for this video. I don't know how I would have figured it out otherwise. To anyone else that's going to do this - make sure you use an ohm meter and measure the resistance for the chip in your key. There were 15 varieties. Mine was 6 ohms.

This sadly is a very common problem on any GM vehicle with the factory VATS system. I came across this problem on three of my cars, two Cadillac's and a Pontiac Bonneville. The wire that runs up inside the steering column to the ignition sensor is what fails, hardly ever the chip on the key. Bypassing it this way as you showed in the video is correct and the easiest way to do. I wish it was this easy to do on European cars such as VW or Audi.

I did everything like u said key #12 so the ohms was 6k. Still get same code. I can turn over like ur buddy did with starter solenoid. When he says may still have to take column apart do u think l need too r maybe l have bad BCM

You say 99 is old I got a 95 and a 94 Cadillac DeVille concourse along with my 1966 Cadillac Fleetwood and yes they all do need work but at least I got them running you can also take the key and splice it into the wires and make sure they're touching and get a copy key and and use that as the turn key and use the other one as a kill switch

I just bought a 2005 Cadillac CTS and had to put a brand new battery in recently and now it has a weird intermittent problem where the transmission hard shifts and sometimes the indicator lights on the mode shifter don't light up. But then I'll park it and shut it off for a while and start back up again and everything is fine. Do you think it's a lose electrical connection somewhere or possibly the ECM is bad. I seen a lot of things online where the ECM's on these cars are problematic

You may be using a key with no chip in it. That is exactly how a car acts with no computer chip in key. Maybe replace battery in your computer key. Only about $10 or under.

@@j.vincento7152 Naw bro. I have the original key, what happened was a dam rat got inside chewing up parts of the intake manifold. I went to the junkyard, and found all the parts, now it idles smooth.

It would not work that way either. If the key was in the ignition and you click the relay under the hood, at most the engine would fire up and then shut down after two seconds. Because the BCM module is not corresponding with the chip key.

The wiring for a 1993 Allante will be the same as the Eldorado, Seville and Deville models. If you're having the same issue with starting the car, install the correct resistor to bypass the problem all together. What he shows in this video is correct.
