According to this forum thread, you are not the only person to experience this issue, it seems to be a problem with the later models of the first generation (05 / 06). www.z1000forum.com/threads/any-06-owners-with-disabled-secondaries.120647/#post-1660405 There could be some kind of difference from the earlier models, mine is an 03. What year is your Z1000?

@James Williams I guess that confirms it's an issue for the 05 and 06 models. As far as the servo buddy, it's an interesting idea, but I'm afraid I can't help you there. Thanks for bringing this to my attention, I will update the video description with a note about it. UPDATE: As it turns out, Healtech makes a STV Eliminator for the Gen-1 Z1000 for about $90. The model number is STVE-07. webshop.healtech-electronics.com/shop/stve/

@IrnMaiden304
@IrnMaiden304 2 жыл бұрын
Pretty sure all that is still together and in working order on mine, it does have a PC3 and a basic tune on it, the map is for an aftermarket air filter with Hindle exhaust last I looked at and saved it to my laptop for just incase scenarios ( done by P.O, which one I don't know, I'm the 4th owner ). I watched a couple videos of people using a PC5 for the ZX6R on the Z cause they didn't have or didn't make one, I think they actually offer one for our generation Z's but I'd have to look again to be 100% sure, I could swear I recall seeing it at one time or another.

Got curious today, airbox lid was untouched, I cut open the square part but I didn't cut off or any of the snorkel part. A lid is cheap, but it does like it being more open with the pipes and tune on the PC3 it had already, she was quite rich prior.
@lonelyryder7441
@lonelyryder7441 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, if you are going to tune the bike with the stock airbox, you pretty much have to mod the lid. The only other way to increase air is to pull the airbox out altogether and go with filter pods instead, which will require another complete re-tune. Filter pods are also used when people do the 06-07 ZX10R throttle body swap modification. I am debating whether or not to attempt that one ;)
@IrnMaiden304
@IrnMaiden304 2 жыл бұрын
@@lonelyryder7441 The throttle bodies have to be installed upside down no ?, I don't know if the fuel lines have to be rearranged or replace though. Only other mods I have considered was the suspension swap when I got it, the cam swap shifts the power band higher up, so it'll lose some of that mid range hit, but the engine doesn't rev as high as the ZX9R, and I like where the power is now so I won't be doing that. I don't know what the margin of improvement is just doing the TB's, I'll surf the forum later on, haven't been on there in a long while.
@lonelyryder7441
@lonelyryder7441 2 жыл бұрын
@@IrnMaiden304 I have seen pictures of people mounting the TBs right-side-up. I think upside down is just easier for hooking everything up, like the throttle sensors for example, because they are on the opposite side as the stock TBs. But I don't know for sure, haven't done it personally. Mine had the 636 rear shock on it when I bought it, but I put the stock one back on because it matched the bike's colors, red spring and gold fork. I don't really do track days, so the 636 shock wasn't necessary.

My 03 z1000 made a weird clicking sound during certain RPMs after I did this. No F1 light and it gave it way more balls, but made a weird noise. Reversed it and it didn't make that sound anymore
@lonelyryder7441
@lonelyryder7441 2 жыл бұрын
I haven't experienced this issue, so I'm not sure where the sound was coming from. The only other way to bypass the secondaries is to pull the airbox and physically remove the secondary butterfly plates. The problem is, that removing the airbox is a lot harder than it sounds on this bike.

I’m in need of some 1st gen knowledge. My bike bogs down under anything more than quarter throttle. Happened after revving for “show”
@lonelyryder7441
@lonelyryder7441 Жыл бұрын
If it idles fine but loses power above 25% throttle, it's probably not a spark plug. An easy way to check for a spark is to start the bike and feel if one of the header pipes is cooler than the rest, but I don't think spark is the problem. It sounds like either the fuel pump is failing, or the servo motor on the secondaries in the TB isn't opening all the way.

No, the PCIII needs to be re-mapped manually. Only the newer Power Commanders have an optional auto-tune capability.

I'm not sure, the first gen Z750 is very similar, it's even the same engine block, just sleeved down to a smaller displacement. But the throttle bodies are different, so I don't know. It wasn't my idea, so I can't take the credit, all the mods I have done were from the Z1000 forums online, like this one: www.z1000forum.com/ You might be able to find an answer to your question there. @@ivanperac5843 The first gen Z1000, Z750, & ZX9R all share essentially the same engine block, but with different displacements, cams, throttle bodies, & magnetos/stators. But keep in mind that there are still differences between them. For example, the Z1000 & Z750 engine has an intake manifold machined for horizontally mounted throttle bodies. On the ZX9R engine, the intake manifold is tilted upwards, to accommodate downdraft carburetors. If you google pictures of the different versions of the engine, you will see what I mean. Make sure you do your research first before you attempt any major modding or engine swapping. Then you have three options. 1, Plug the motor back in and forget about the mod. 2, Pull the airbox out and physically remove the plates instead. 3, Go to the Healtech website and buy a bypass plug to remove the F.I. light. webshop.healtech-electronics.com/shop/stve/ Use the drop-down menu to select STVE-07, you can double check to make sure that's the right model for your bike with their compatibility checker.

What exactly did you change on your power commander map?
@lonelyryder7441
@lonelyryder7441 2 жыл бұрын
Basically, bypassing the secondaries could create a lean spot in the map. I tuned my bike myself using a stand-alone O2 sensor and gauge kit. I plan to make a video on how to do that, I just haven't got around to it yet. As far as the accelerator pump that I mentioned, it is a feature that needs to be enabled on the power commander III series. It gives a split-second boost of fuel in the mix when you yank the throttle open quickly. dynojet.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360003924514-Power-Commander-III-Installing-the-Accelerator-Pump-Utility

@@lonelyryder7441 I haven't done this mod yet but I have a question for you. I sometimes experience on my bike (which is an 03 almost identical to your bike) while riding it will shut off and when I pull over it will start right up and run as if nothing has happened. It feels like it's running put of fuel but it has a full tank. Have you experienced this issue on your bike?
@lonelyryder7441
@lonelyryder7441 2 жыл бұрын
@Gilbert Duran No, I have not had that issue. Based on your description, my first suspicion would be something wrong with the fuel pump, or something interrupting voltage to the fuel pump. It could also just be a blockage in the fuel lines somewhere. Look inside your gas tank when it is near empty and make sure there isn't any floating debris or rust that could block gas flow. If that looks good, I would turn my attention to the fuel pump. I'm afraid that's all the help I can offer right now. @@lonelyryder7441 thank you I found a problem with power to the fuel pump a few weeks back. The power wire which powers up the fuel pump relay was bare and grounding out. I repaired the wire issue and replaced both fuel pump relays and that seems to have solved some of the issues but I am now leaning towards the fuel pump or some sort of obstruction as you mentioned.
