Excellent 🎥 and am able to use your knowledge as reference. Just bought a 06 Z1000 yesterday (tuesday-January 23rd-2024) and planning to look into my valve clearances this coming weekend. I might even need to replace the cam-chain+tensioner as she’s a high mileage bike with nearly 60,000miles (88,500+Km‘s) Many thanks 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽 with best greetings from Düsseldorf Sher. 😉

This is a great video. Not only for z1000 owners. But anyone looking to do a valve adjustment on a 4 cylinder bike. I can’t count the amount of questions I’ve had throughout my rebuild that you answered In this video. Thanks a lot!

Thanks for a great video! I've been thinking for a while about whether I should do this during the winter. I could manage to do the work, I understand now, but buying all the tools probably makes it cheaper to take it in to a workshop. 🙂👍

Awesome videos! You are doing great job at explaining all the working phases, I love it! Can I make a request about rear suspension and how to maintain and adjust it? I have my first bike bought this year, its a Z750 -04. At the moment here in the far north, driving season has ended, so it's time for doing services and modifications. I have bought rear fork and shock from Z1000, planing to slap them on as a first modification, I have no idea how to service that shock or adjust it properly. It would be nice to see, how more experienced drivers like to do it. Keep that great content coming, cheers!

I might make a video down the road, but I am WAY too busy right now with other things. I don't do track days so I don't usually mess with my suspension too much anyway besides just adjusting the preload. But there are already really good videos on KZbin explaining suspension setups. Here are a couple good resources: kzbin.info/www/bejne/q6vCoWCfqp52ldU www.youtube.com/@CatalystReactionSBW

Brilliant vid, so so helpful. Thank you so much, theres not many vids on the 1st gen at all. Would you be able to show how your steering damper is fitted? Also have you balanced the throttle bodies? Thanks again.
@lonelyryder7441
@lonelyryder7441 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the compliment. As for your questions, the damper assembly is quite easy, it's literally just brackets and bolts. I could make a quick video on it, but I'm not planning to film any videos during winter, I'm busy remodeling my basement right now. No, I have not balanced the throttle bodies, but I don't think it needs it.

Hey lonely thanks for the video it awsome totally needed that info. Do you need to put silicone gasket sealer when installing the valve gasket ? Or do you not apply it because it dont need it ?
@lonelyryder7441
@lonelyryder7441 Жыл бұрын
It depends on who you ask. Some people say you need sealer, others don't, everyone has their own preference. The "official" way you are supposed to do it is with sealer, but I personally don't use it. All it does is make the gasket last a little longer before it starts leaking, but it also makes it more of a pain to replace down the road because you have to scrape that gunk off again. So, I personally don't bother with it for valve covers, but it's really up to you.

Yeah, that's my dilemma rn, I did it with gasket sealer last time, and it didn't even last that long before it started leaking again! Then it's a pain in the but now to get all the gunk off, not to mention the bits that fall in you have to clean out. Thanks for the tips I really appreciate your input and videos man, ride safe ✌️

Hey, one more thing, all my EX. Side clearances are below the .22mm range, for example, Ones all the way at .10mm. At that point, is it even worth changing the shims? Is my valve totally shredded ? The bike runs fine. I commute on it every day, but I was wondering if I change the shim, will it make much of a difference?

Thanks so much for this! Just curious, did you drain the oil before you started?
@lonelyryder7441
@lonelyryder7441 7 ай бұрын
No, you don't have to drain the oil to do this job, but it might drip a little when you take the pulse- cover off, so put a pan under that.

I can't give you a professional answer, I'm not a mechanic by trade. But if I was in your situation, I would go ahead and re-shim them. Who knows? you might get years more out of it before the valves are completely out of adjustment.

What steering dampener is that? Trying to find one for my green 03 z1000
@lonelyryder7441
@lonelyryder7441 2 жыл бұрын
I bought it on Ebay a few years ago, but that listing is long gone. It's not the most robust damper, but it does ok for the price. My only complaint is that the paint is starting to rub off of mine. Just do a search for "2003 z1000 steering damper" and they will pop up. Here is one I found that looks identical to mine, with some green highlights. www.ebay.com/itm/175393747534?hash=item28d648324e:g:2-UAAOSwE9ZhOcyB&amdata=enc%3AAQAHAAAAsF7SdY3bkg7B1Q27BcYsbzACUwRBPq48jspYxnifg0tYMlW6zyLctNOV2juv3eSRRR2pO5IXJGQ18qodGPKxZl%2FrqMsbvSx07nyoahPRsZCMrdYjX4W%2FBU0Sr5SGFu7lElQVDcXKtTwLdpe0jsFWNK%2BvKZ55Z3hNfgyQfsiY1kI6g595WO5enVKvGu4kgTyjoDvkkgGYa%2BL4KwJowuXjtmhqDvNa5iZedDddnw%2FjH2ur%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR6T-2fraYA Here is also one on amazon with a lot of colors to choose from, but it's more expensive. www.amazon.com/Motorcycle-Stabilizer-Z1000-Z750-2003-2009/dp/B075SXP2Y4?th=1
