Morel Mushrooms 2021 - Georgia Habitat & Cold Front Tips for Foraging

The 2021 morel mushroom season is upon us. In this video we will go over unusual habitats here in north Georgia where morels grow year after year. W also do an experiment regarding the first cold front of the morel season. Do cold fronts hurt morels? Watch this video and hopefully it';; help you determine whether you should pick now, or continue foraging for more mature specimens. We find a good basket of morels in this video, but we're not finished yet. Great 'shroom hunt, Zach! Break out the butter and a skillet!! I had a friend years ago, who was a great "Morel man". He eventually took me into his confidence and allowed me to accompany him to some of his hot spots. If someone does that for you, that's a huge compliment to the trust they have in you. His hot spots were only 15 or 20 minutes away, but we'd spend an hour getting there on the most circuitous route you could imagine. All the while, watching for any vehicles that might be attempting to follow us. I hope you and your family had a fantastic Easter, and continued good luck with the Morels!!

Love morels, the gold of mushroom as far as I’m concerned. You have a great eye to find that first one from so far away. Use to fluff up old leaves and find morels under the leaves at the base of oaks.

I’ve had morels grow in old fire areas and old wood piles right in our yard in Alaska. After forest fires the next spring is where we always found morels.

The only one I have ever found was 12/26/18,it was by a creek under Black Walnut Trees in Central Alabama.

What month and date did you find these? I live in Michigan and we find ours week or so before mother's day depending on the temperatures. How do you get the dirt and sand off your Morales? I soak mine in salt water.

Morels live less than 2 weeks most about 1/2 that long. Some only a few days.
