I find it faster than FTP as my PS3 is on a wireless connection. I think if you've connected via ethernet the speed greatly increases.

Hard to say until you get to the system check in the hacking process. Just follow the tutorial. You won't damage your PS3. If you get the the check and it says NO just use the PS3HEN method.

The main purpose for my PS3 will be to play PS1, PS2, and PS3 backups. Would PS3HEN be enough to play the backups and also simpler to install/use?

Yes. PS3HEN will do all those consoles. I think it struggles with the PSP, but if that's not a concern it's a great way to go. Especially if you have a super slim model or non compatible Slim.

I couldn't agree more with you to upgrade the hard drive before even starting playing on the console. I had a 320gb that I have upgraded to a 1Tb SSD with only 200gb of used space, it took me over 30h of directly connected ethernet FTP transfer, profile backing up and reinstalling the OS. Yes. You need to convert the iso files to package files. I think there is an app that does it for you.

Awesome detailed video. May be good to add a step after 34:40 post installing memory patch to verify that it was installed correctly by dumping another nand and checking the logs via ps3pychecker. My CECHE01 froze during this step(wave bars stopped moving), but I did hear the chime. Luckily it was still able to boot. I checked the new nand logs and saw that the firmware now shows rebug, which made it more comfortable to move onto the CFW steps.

I just did this on my slim, works great but had a lot of problems getting stuff from my PC in rspc3 onto the real PS3 (trying to save re-downloading gigs of stuff). copying across the ones in GAMES works fine but the ones in 'game' don't show initially..... the secret is to get the PS3 into safe mode then rebuild the database and then they show and load fine heh!

games in pkg you should download only on rare games that are not easily found in folder or iso format, they are annoying to install because it takes a lot of time, while games that require the rap file avoid them like the plague they only complicate your life. I am full of PS3 games downloaded only in folder and ISO format which are the best ever and very few games in pkg will be 5 6 games

I think you can just install over the top of your setup, but my advice is to do a full reset of the console and get it all prepared before re installing the latest CFW. This can remove your existing games so make sure you're happy to do that. I cover it in the video with links to my full reset video.

No. Once you've installed the firmware it's there for good. If you use the PS3HEN route you do need to re enable it each time you power on, but it's just a single menu option.

If you've got the disk there's no need to copy it apart from preserving the disk. Yes it will double up disk space.

Yes. But you need to make sure you hide the custom firmware footprint. Install a copy of WebMan MOD from the Brewology website. It will hide CFW from the Sony servers. I'll be making a full video on this in the coming weeks.

I think it's a risk with any modded console. Using the CFW variant of the custom firmware tries to keep it looking like the official firmware, but I wouldn't be able to guarantee you won't get banned. Using WebManMod can help disguise the modded firmware but again not 100%.

Most of the PS3 games I care for are now on PC anyway and the rest can be made to work with emulation. It's easier than re-enable the functions on every start of the console. It's not worth the hustle. 2. I also don't really have a working original controller and the video says I need one. The one that came with it was busted from the start and I bought a cheap third party controller to replace it. 3. I also don't want to connect the thing to the internet, because consoles don't belong on the internet. The Playstation is now Blu-Ray player. That's literally the only thing it's good for. Everything else PC can do better. Kinda the reason why I stopped buying any new consoles after the used PS3 I got for cheap back in 2016. I stopped caring, because consoles stopped being consoles. They 've become locked down PCs and I already have a couple of those that aren't locked and are more powerful.

I’ve successfully jailbroken my original 60GB model and a 80GB model both FAT models. Warning to the Slim types they have to be less than CECH 2500 as apparently you can run into problems. I jailbroke a slim CECH 2100a and thought it was going so well until I got stuck in an update loop for the third time then luckily worked on fourth. With slim models if you have a broken or dodgy Bluetooth and WiFi module you might get problems just check before jailbreaking these work fine.

That's a very hard question to answer as there are a lot of possible issues. Have a look at the CFW guide for some help and try some of the forums. If it's really bad you might need a new PS3 for the hack. If the existing one works as a stock machine you should be able to sell it and get almost the cost of a new one.
