I bought a jb PS3 slim on an old version, evilnat. Some things work some don't, I can't get online or spoof my version... Should I use the official updater to update to 4.91 and then use this guide to re-jailbreak or leave my older JB? I think it's on 4.80 currently but I'm not sure.

I’d recommend using other devices for media consumption, so as to cut down on the hours logged on your gaming device.

I think you'd probably be ok, yes. As for PSN, I wouldn't play online with a CFW-modded game system. Worst care, you wouldn't get your account banned, but you MIGHT get that specific console banned.

Absolutely! In fact, it's one of the main reasons that FTP is valuable over USB, as PS3 game USOs are rarely less than the 4GB FAT32 limit of USB on the PS3. Just be aware that moving large ISOs to the PS3 HDD, whether over FTP or USB, is a little bit slow. Maybe keep a cup of coffee, or an entire four-course meal, at the ready. :)

You don't have to jailbreak it then. If you want to update your CFW to the newest version, all you have to do is place the new CFW on a flash drive, name it PS3UPDAT.PUP, place it in the PS3\UPDATE\ directory in your flash drive, then in PS3 system settings Update from USB and you'll be up to date.

Absolutely. In fact, if you're already running custom firmware on your PS3, you'd only need to just install the new CFW right over the old one. The PS3 would already have to have been patched to install the older CFW so the new CFW will slide right in.

Not sure. The downloadable file in the video description is the right CFW file from PSX Place. Maybe double-check to make sure the patch was accepted and be sure to restart the PS3 before attempting the CFW install.

I used to recommend multiMAN. It's still a thing but hasn't been updated since 2019. I'd recommend webMAN and IRISMAN as great first installs on the newly jailbroken PS3 Both get regular updates and are super useful.

You'll be fine. Most of these official software updates are designed around content licensing changes for things like movies and music, for example. Probably a dose of CFW breaking splashed in for good measure too, but mostly changes to licensing. If you're happy with 4.90 and don't want to update, you'll be good to go.

That is dependent on 2 things. Is your PS3 capable of supporting custom firmware? If it is do you want or need the extra features that CFW offers?

I think the factor to look for here is the model number on your specific PS3 Slim. All 2000 models work with CFW and all of the 2500s I've tested work with it. I think there might be a select few late 2500s that can't run CFW. All 3000 Slums systems can't run CFW and would need HEN.

Well, it actually doesn't need one. Anyone can get a developer account with Microsoft for like $20. Then you can access "unsigned" applications like home-brew anytime you'd like. I have one and it's definitely a great value.
