The screen used to turn white before the buildings exploded with the nuclear weapon. That made enverything so much cooler, without it it's like a gap that kind of ruins the animation :P

I remember that my first encounter with the Obelisk of light was definitely the scariest moment in the whole game. More scary than the nuke itself. Nod launched a nuke only at the very end of the last mission and it only took out my base defenses, but when I first heard the hum from the black and suddenly a screaming red stripe taking almost half of the health of my leading medium tank, I shat my pants. I actually falled back to build more troops.

No, you can only fire one nuke in a game. It was probably the fact it could destroy pretty much anything cept for Mammoths, I guess, in one blast.

These are all childhood memories : The ion cannon annoyed me much when playing as Nod. The "nuklear war is approaching" voice gave me goosebump. And the first sight of Obelisk in mission 7 GDI gave me the thought of "wtf is that?" And the first time we got advanced guard tower for GDI in mission 13 i was kind of happy n proud same time, so stupid i thought it has the same fire power as obelisks.

They should create something similar to the Obelisk real life. In world war 1 they had the zeppelins go over and bomb London not because it was effective, but it was supposed to cause constant fear and panic throughout London to pull the troops back. It did not succeed unfortunately, but fear is a good way to change the playing field and I feel something like an Obelisk would terrify people hit by it.

That depends... there is a HUGE difference between single player and multiplayer nuke. The SP one does 1000 damage, while the MP one only does 300.

NOD's Nuke was almost always the endgame for any poor fool on the receiving end.....followed swiftly by a stealth tank/ flame tank mop-up team ^^ Ahhhh....the good ol' days :3

Funny how a computer opponent always launches it's nuke at your first constructed advanced guard tower. If you build it somewhere out of the way by means of sandbags your home free.

Hey, I'm pretty sure my old DOS version of C&C had the screen turn white when the nuclear missile exploded, it seems that does not happen in the Windows version? And the nuclear strike was wonderfully strong in the original C&C. Of course you could only use one per mission, but in the DOS version the splash area was just about the entire screen (it played in 320x200 resolution). Too bad they weakened it a lot in the later games in the series. It was about as strong as the C&C air strike in RA.

Yoyo, I was born in the 90's (1992) got Tiberian Dawn the year it came out, (played it when I was 4) and thought the graphics were amazing, and still do.

Everyone saying how the nuke is much superior to the ion cannon. Pretty sure the nuke shown here is the unique campaign only nuke. You only get to use it once too. The multiplayer nuke is about the same as a Soviet nuke in RA1. Ion Cannon recharges faster than the nuke too.

Don't know about that but in the original PSX version the nuke were of a much larger size basically covering the entire screen on detonation. I distinctly remember this from the playing the final mission as GDI when NOD nuked my entire base.

In C&C Tiberium Dawn, you need only one nuclear bomb to do the job, not 3 or 4. I want the morther of all bombs back!

ah, I guess Westwood did the effect by having it change the brightness of the output to the display or something, which wouldn't affect any programs which records the video data before that last stuff. Or something, I'm just guessing here. But I think many games handle screen brightness and gamma in a similar way, that makes recorded video or screenshots unaffected by the changes.

One thing has been confusing me the whole time I watch all these videos - wasn't nuclear launch more destructive that it is shown here? In my Covert Operations, back in ol' good 1996 (when I started playing it), the nuke has been taking out 3/4 of the base, and also, the moment it exploded, the white blinding flash clouded the monitor. Where is this now?

I also own The First Decade, but I did notice that Command & Conquer: Sole Survivor was not included. How bad that C&C game ever was I still think they should have included it for completeness. Otherwise I hope they'll release it for free as they did with C&CTD and RA.
