Great video! It brought back lots of memories of logging for Weyerhaeuser out of Klamath Falls in the 80's when we still transferred off-highway truckloads of logs onto the railcars. The locomotives brought empties from Sycan Shop to Camp 9, Camp 6, Bly, and the 700 reload every morning, then hauled 100 loads 65 miles back to the mill every afternoon. I still miss it every day!

What a treat! I grew up further north along the Milwaukee Road Chehalis Sub near Roy, WA. When the Milwaukee left the West in 1980, Weyerhauser wanted to continue running logs to Tacoma via rail so they purchased the line and all the Milwaukee log bunk cars. They ran logs out of Curtis and Vail until mid 1980's and then only out of Vail until 1992. Curtis was turned into a pole yard. When Weyerhauser started running trains in August 1981, the very first traffic was #701 running alone toward Tacoma. The old GP7 wore the Weyerhauser name back then.

Very neat to see this line in action via old footage. I stopped and checked out trestle and a bit of the line heading north-ish this Summer, on my way back from Portland.

Super Video!! The Weyerhaeuser Woods line is shut down and the tracks pulled up past Headquarters. Patriot Rail now owns what's left

6 locomotives, only one of which was actually specifically designed to go out on the road. So cool.

Hello . Super Video image and sound .The driving on the wooden support required by the locomotive crew much skill, once strong brakes, the construction can affect negative, but here everything is neat about the stage.

Yeah until a train comes on the trestle. There's no walkway, you'd have to jump.

That 309 is now at the kentuckybrailway museum as L&N 411. I rode her when she was still in Weyerhaeuser paintscheme but her paint was really beat. It's in good shape now and has a gyralte!

Could someone explain why the video constantly shifts about? Is it due to a bad video transfer from VHS to digital process?

No, I used KZbin's stabilization software during upload to correct my shaky camera work. Big mistake. I have better methods now.

I havent seen a weyerhauser train since early 2000s on that trestle
@fmnut5 жыл бұрын
That's because they gave up operating the woods railroad. It's only used for the freight traffic from the mill now.

Line has been damaged right before the bridge. I believe it was hit. Patriot only switches in the on site yard and the Hydrogen Peroxide plant across the way. Occasionally I see them bringing in cars from longview switching and they deliver the tank cars to our facility at the old bleach plant.

You couldn't get anything on that line from where it comes around the hill and under interstate 5 now lots of brush and trees growing up between the rails. Would need tones of cleanup.
@fmnut3 жыл бұрын
Not only that, but the line has been severed on the other side of the river, so you can't get to it from either end.

That's a mighty trestle - but what is it's purpose? It seems to be part of a zig-zag.
@fmnut6 жыл бұрын
At 4:29 the train is crossing a steel span over the Cowlitz river. The long curved wooden portion was the runoff to bring the track down to ground level. Wooden trestles were common in the Northwest especially on logging railroads. Much cheaper than earthworks in the days of low cost labor.

it's sad that patriot rail owns the woods railroad and c&c. and no longer gose to the headquarters road dump.
