Way to go Mullen

Rather than chemical propellants that are the norm for modern spacecraft, Asimov envisioned using a small nuclear reactor to super-heat water to produce high pressure steam that would be expelled through exhaust tubes producing thrust. It's through one of those tubes that Mullen gains access to the control compartment occupied by the Chloro invaders.

What happens when you run out of water?

@@frederickwise5238 In some of his stories he described different scenarios for replenishing a ship's water supply. Sometimes water is removed from the earth, sometimes from other planets, sometimes comets are redirected and used. Of course the technology to do this is advanced and at huge scale.

I don't disagree. It should be noted, however, that in this story, steam is not described as a main propellant, but as a steering device. Although it seems odd that the steam tubes should be large enough for a man to get inside one.

I used to listen to this show regularly. Doing so now reminds me of the old days, when America was great. Little did we realize how horrible and dysfunctional our country would become. Most people today have no clue how wonderful America was prior to the murder of JFK. The truth has been wiped out, except in the memories of old persons like myself. I pity you.

Life is cyclical my friend even Rome fell. As one flower dies another one blooms you just might not like the color but it's still a flower. (Mankind)

You ever thought that with your advanced age and the closer you get to death the more negative and miserable you have become? The younger generations don't need your pity they just need rose tinted glasses wearing muppets like yourself to shut up and get on with dying out.
