As a half-Classical pianist, when i played my first Debussy piece my fingers were so startled by the chordal and melodic movement that they didn't know what to do. I was just fumbling. It was like playing piano for the first time. And it took me so long to memorize the piece. Debussy started a different KIND of emotion.

The dissolution of what we perceive as if a dream accompanied with nostalgia and a resigned good bye to what he knows was more than a vague mirage. His music rests on this question : where is she going, this young girl ? And with deep sadness and mourning, he repeats to himself this question : where is she going, this young girl ? No answers but the wind saying nothing explicetely and the silence succeeding to the breathings of the piano. I feel the longing, the certainty - the uncertaintety. Debussy, you are dear to my heart. this part has the most boring harmony, the rolling chords section has a minor 9 that sounds great and i immediately start hearing the awesome harmony that could follow and then he goes back to something stale lol a jazz reharm of this piece would go hard
@Torrybobs2 ай бұрын
@@archsys307 I appreciate what you’re saying, but I have to disagree. There’s a beauty in its simplicity. It’s like a slow breath leading to a deep sigh of relief, it’s my favourite part of this song because it’s as short as it needs to be, and the quiet sense of triumph and comfort outweighs any excess that could have easily been added :) I’m glad we all can find and want different things in the music we love!
@cocolasticot9027Ай бұрын
@@archsys307 The most boring harmonies are often what leads to the most vivid feelings. A thing that a lot of jazzmen don't understand, or choose to ignore. And a reason why maybe half of jazz production leaves me completely unfazed. Complexity doesn't always mean better, far from it. Most of the time, I'd argue the opposite is true.

There is nothing about this price I dislike. The more intense parts make me feel sick but wearer it's good or bad I don't know. It makes me nervous yet relaxed, sad yet happy. Lonely but loving. I was completely unaware that merely a peice of music could have this affect on a person. It makes me feel deeply about each individual emotion I ever felt but blurs them so they all seem to be different parts of the same puzzle

I haven\t played this for many years and so was consulted the score and was wondering about interpreting it afresh. I saw it is written in 3/4 but was relieved to hear the liberties in timing in this interpretation, which is like how I remembered it, which aids in giving this piece it's dreaminess.
