I wish I spoke the language, I am not sure if the translation is correct. Jia states that Suoxin was "punished" by the Office of Careful Punishment, which was not true. She was tortured to attempt to get her to turn on Ruyi. Now, Jia was, in fact, "punished" by the Emperor. Two totally different things.

During one episode, Jia accused Ruyi of having an affair with the Grand Buddhist Master, and her proof was a seven-gemstone bracelet and a forged letter addressed to Suoxin (the girl limping in black). I think the emperor accused Suoxin of covering for Ruyi so he sent Suoxin to be tortured until she confessed and sent Ruyi to another, less lively palace as punishment. From what I saw in another clip, the last time one of these women were gifted special jewellery it was embedded with poison that made them infertile and she knew about the plot. So she has a reason to be suspicious lol.

Jia once used a duplicate jewellery made from the same stone of the earrings to slander the empress. Emperor wants to investigate and took xian's beloved servant suoxin to the investigation Bureue. Suoxin was tortured and hurt her legs. That's why she is limping. So now as empress, xian wants to remind jia to keep her boundary and warns her, avenging her servant. Using the earrings, as a reminder and punishment in disguise.

It’s a public humiliation for her, because carnelian stone is cheap. Secondly it’s symbolistic of what Jia had done to Ruyi. Jia used a bracelet made of 7 stones to framed Ruyi of having an affair with the monk. As consequences, Emperor interrogate Ruyi’s servant and caused her to limp for the rest of her life. To vindicate herself Ruyi switch the bracelet evidence with one that is made of carnelian stone. Agate and carnelian are very similar but agate is much more precious. Jia is from a foreign country so Ruyi used that to insinuate that Jia don’t know the differences, and have Emperor be suspicious of Jia. Ruyi recovered from the mess but the earring gift is meant to tell Jia that you’re the “fake” and “cheap” one. And that’s what she worth. Of course it also to remind her of her previous scheme. The earring hook is dull so it hurt Jia, and publicly humiliated her in front of others to remind her of her position. Like they said, this is a “gift” that isn’t a “gift”. Empress is punishing her without technically “punish” her.

When Ruyi was still noble consort, Jia framed her for having an affair with Monk Anji by forging a love letter and bracelet as evidence. Ruyi swapped the carnelian bracelet with a red agate one. As carnelian is commonly used by monks as the seven treasures of Buddhism, Ruyi was able to defend herself and guide the Emperor into suspecting Jia and her personal maid as they are of foreign descent and may not be able to tell the difference between the two crystals. Ruyi is bringing it up again to remind Jia of her misdeeds and to avenge Suoxin who was severely tortured during Jia's investigation.
