I have to applaud the actor playing Shen Yurong. Apart from Jiang Li character, I believed Shen Yurong is also one of the most complicated characters emotionally and mentally. He delivered the complexity of Shen Yurong emotions perfectly through all his expressions. I have all sorts of feelings and assumptions trying to gauge & understand his intentions, his love for A’Li, his greed for power, the guilt he feels. He made me wonder for all the decisions/path he took. I truly believed at one point he genuinely love JiangLi. But greed makes its way and he thinks their love wasn’t sufficient in this corrupted circle where wolves are hungry for power. The actor deserves awards for his portrayal of Shen Yurong. I hate his character but I could not bring myself to hate him entirely because the way he shows his emotions in between guilt, love, pitiful and helplessness.

I agree! So far, I hate his character for being weak, but at the same time, there is also this hugely complicated web that he was pulled into.
