The Royal Navy used to send cassettes out to all ships in fare away places. These had all the top 40 hits of the times to be played on a system which sent the vibes out to most compartments on the ships. On the other side of the cassettes though was John Peel, but these never got played. Good for me tho as when the cassettes had been played I nicked them and listened to hours and hours of John Peel. I like the music I like because of JP. d d d do right,.,

I cried the whole day when I found out John Peel had died, and I certainly never saw that coming. It showed me how much of an impact he had on my life, and how much I ( unknowingly) loved him for it.

I bumped into Chris Watson at a bird reserve in Suffolk around twenty years ago I'm pretty sure. Chatted to him about birds for about ten minutes and never realised it was him 🙂

I discovered some of my favourite music through the John Peel show-SPK, Bourbonese Qualk, Cocteau Twins, Virginia Astley.

Wonder if he could explain "Diskono" and the lyrics to "Badge of Evil" - in latter song, what does "spelled sell" mean?

This is Alan Fisch at 2:46, who played drum with them for a bit in the early 80s. It’s not Chris Watson.

So ahead of their time. Cabaret Voltaire so forward thinking. So progressive. Not in a prog rock way lol. But in an industrial new wave way. They are the best at it. Funny how in early 80s Britain became all metal and America had Blondie, Talking Heads, Television.
@COwens6 жыл бұрын
Excellent piece, although there is a mistake. 2.46 isn't Chris Watson, it's Alan Fish (who drummed for them from 1982 to 1988ish).

It's a shame they aren't around anymore. However I bought a CD of theirs the other day which is called Kora! Kora! Kora! (The Cabaret Voltaire Versions) from 2009. It's pretty good.
