yeah... sissel kyrkjebø was going to, but her then husband didn't want her and nicely forced her home to raise children. people don't like to talk about it, but a controlling husband is why we didn't get the best singer for the song.

this has got to be the best and funniest behind the music story, not just for celine dion, but the entire music industry. singer doesnt want to sing a song for a movie, but was convinced by her manager to sing it, even for just a demo. she doesnt want to sing it again, so they use said demo. she makes it the biggest song in her career, one of the biggest song in the world, saves the movie and even turning it into one of the biggest movie ever. hows that for talent. this interview certainly shuts down that stories that "my heart will go on" was offered to another singer before celine grabbed it away from her.

James Cameron first wanted Sissel to do the scoring of Titanic, at first she accepted it but eventually she refused to do it. Then, James Cameron called James Horner to do the scoring instead and he did. Since Sissel were already been involved she did the arias together with the scoring of James Horner. Then, James Horner secretly made a song for the movie with the help of the lyricist Will Jennings. After the lyrics were completed. James Horner contacted Céline Dion and had a meeting with her and played the song on a piano in person. When James started playing the piano while singing. Céline was not impressed due to the singing of James Horner and she looked at her manager/husband, Rene that she doesn’t want the song. But her manager said to James that they should do a demo and he agreed. They flew to New York to record Céline’s demo and before recording the demo. She drank a black coffee that’s why her vibrato were fast. So, the recording starts and while she was singing everybody got goosebumps. She looked outside the studio and saw them crying and knew that they made a classic song. So, James made an orchestral instrumentation with Céline’s demo/vocals. In the album version that can be seen on her english album “Let’s Talk About Love” has a different ending and instrumentals which were done by Walter Afanaseiff. They changed the last belting “ooooon” and a longer one hum at the end (which in the soundtrack version there were 2 hums. They just picked the last hum for the album version)

Raymond Sihombing - Yep. She didn’t like her rapid vibrato, just as you said...the later versions were her exact vocal...they just added so much orchestration and effects, background vocals, chorus, strings, guitar, etc. There were at least 3 versions made from the original vocal.

Btw i think the next version still had the fibrato even not faster like the first version.. It was originally offered to Sissel Kyrkjebø and she had already recorded it with James Horner, when the rexord label changed their kmind and wanted Celine instead. They thought it was easier to promote a Canadian than sissel who is Norwegian. I personally disagree it's Celine's song for sure and I don't think it would have suited Whitney to do it. Celine's voice is just pure perfection in this song and she didn't want to do it initially because she wasn't impressed with James Horner's singing and he was putting her off but she eventually found her connection and made a masterpiece. I love Whitney but this song was not for her.

Horrid song. Ruins the emotion of the movie once you watch it, it's so sad and moving and then this mozzarella cheese on toast bollocks of a pop song comes on and it just ruins the credits. Celine didn't want to record it, you say? Well, many of us never wanted to endure it.

This is quite different than the story Horner tells- which is that he had SISSEL already lined up- and she'd already recorded it- and then he ended up putting Celine Dion onto the soundtrack to help her career. She hadn't done well with film and music- so Horner felt like he 'owed her a Titanic chance'- HIS words. *It was obviously a huge help to her- and she sounds like a horrible, entitled, stuck up person- Horner should've kept Sissel. Sounded much better with Sissel as well.

If what you say here is true, which it could very well be, why would Celine say it? I'd think it would be quite rude of her to go in interview and say "Oh, they had a different singer at one time, then they booted her off the track and put me on the track instead". That would be pretty nasty to Sissel. Plus she might not have known at the time. Singers don't necessarily know all of what's gone on in a song's history prior to them recording it. They don't need to know, the important thing is just that they do their job to the best of their ability.

Céline was sulking and showed no motivation, her version is really flat, bland, she certainly has a very powerful voice but this song should have been sung in its entirety by Sissy who did the backing vocals or left it as it was. Whitney Houston would have done a great job, there is also a montage that includes all the voice sounds corresponding to the music! James Horner screwed up by insisting on having Celine, shit you had Sissy especially since he did everything behind James Cameron's back especially since he didn't want a pop title for his film. Céline stp no longer sings this music that disgusts you so much yet your best success in the world.
