I use Kate now, I was able to create my own theme without a major headache and then g++ on my terminal on my Linux system. I used to use Atom and was bummed out when that project shut down. But at this point I can use anything, I started with c, so I'm not completely new to programming, just not a professional. I tried Jupyter didn't like it and there is a learning curve, for me it's a waste of time, but that's me

For teaching C++ please stick to C++. While C++ does contain all the C commands, character strings, scanf, headers with .h etc are generally considered C centric.
