I have a project that you might be interested in. Its a digital GIS-CAD hybrid engineering reconstruction of the nineteenth century transportation canals throughout the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The drawings are compiled from historic survey maps and modern GIS products. Currently I have about 700 miles of canals mapped (about 1,200 miles total for the state), and am lately working on the North Branch (Northumberland to Chemung NY). These are not just centerline drawings, they are simplified 2D drawings of the canals and associated structures (locks, bridges, etc). My other hobby is bicycle touring. Over the last decade I've been drawing maps and then spent a few weeks bicycling the routes for ground truthing. As many of the canals were replaced by railroads which were even later abandoned in favor of highways, quite a bit of the old canal routes are now rail trails. Some of these trails, such as the Susquehanna Warrior Trail, you have already done videos. Am curious if you would like to see a kmz file of the canal routes in NE PA and could possibly make some observations?
