Grew up in DC and road the C&O towpath to Great Falls in the early 80’s on my skinny tire 10 speed many times with my high school and college friends. Brings back great memories.

Somehow a fellow area rider spotted us in the video (@ 2:32) during a stop we had at Great Falls. 🤯 Pleasant surprise and good we were able to see our micro-participation. Thanks for the video!

Another excellent video. I completed the entire C & O and Gap trail in October (posted a video of the trip here on KZbin as well). Can’t wait to go back again and check out sites we missed the first time.

@@GravelCyclist Yeah it took me by surprise. My son and I went to Whites Ferry the other day to start off. Saw the ferry was closed and thought it was because of the recent rain and high water. Big lawsuit with the VA landowner and ferry operator. But it needs to get resolved.
@GravelCyclist

@@derrleicaguy Agreed, it needs to be resolved ASAP. As you know, there are people who daily commute across the ferry, not to mention its history and value as a historical treasure.

Meanwhile, I would like to trade places for about a month. Quite homesick at the moment and longing for daylight savings time, and the lovely Aussie summer. Covid totally knackered my plans to visit the homeland this year. The quarantine and fee are untenable.

You crossed under the Capital Beltway--Beltway for short--and it is a freeway loop around DC through Maryland and Northern Virginia. And thanks for documenting more sights of the area and for sure that gravel towpath is a nice way to get out of the District.

@@GravelCyclist And thanks again for another visit to the DC area, so much to see and ride, truly. Like just the commutes could be epic, sudden duels because you didn't want to get dusted on the ride to work. One of my favorites was from Rosslyn to the DC waterfront, after which this other gent and I shared a brief chat as we rode alongside each other. And turns out he was a German guy and he was pleasantly surprised by our duel at sunrise. And it was great fun as he was hard to catch after he had passed me like I was standing still.

Great video, I plan on doing a similar ride, as well as riding the Capital Crescent trail next summer. Unfortunately, I just read that Whites Ferry, which is a little further up the canal, has been shut down, so it is no longer possible to cross over to Leesburg and back down the Virginia side to DC. shame. Please do some gravel rides in Citrus County Florida, that is where my house is, I only work in DC. Cheers.

Some shoes are definitely too stiff. When I post shoe reviews, I make a point to go grocery shopping in them, along with driving home in them, post ride.... preferably in one of my manual transmission cars. I like to test beyond the normal realms.

Easily doable for sure, 25's or 28's no worries. I did encounter a mega mud pit on a northern section of the C&O two years ago (rode to Cumberland), that would have been miserable on anything with tyres that narrow, whee!
