I am finding the arguments of the two lecturers banal, simplistic and stereotypical. To put it mildly they represent a dumbed down version of-dare I say-the "culture wars." Yes, the scientific method--for those who still have learned/know it--is a wonderful way of assessing fact. Everyone should learn it. When a university professor, I found that many of my students had no idea what that was. Indeed, secondary education in the US has declined precipitously: poor, if any, language training, minimal mathematics, poor understanding of the sciences, and an inability to write adequately in their own mother tongue. The problem is not so much a clash between the approaches of Snow's two cultures, as a lack of good education. Both science and the humanities, seriously studied, are anathema to the book banners, anti-critical thinking mob. Secondly, there is a whole generation of "kept scientists" who are working for corporate entities to scientifically justify the use of some dubious products. These kept scientists have long since betrayed scientific objectivity in lieu of profit.
