As a mere layperson I wonder if Descartes set the scene for cruel animal experimentation with his view of all living things other than humans as automations. In my view that is a quote of deepest ignorance that should have been obvious even at the time. Glad you quoted the transcendental Blake and much appreciate your talk.

I especially appreciate the overview of the career of Mondrian. My favorite bridge between the two cultures was Alexander Calder.

There is a book by a great novelist called Amitav Ghosh on Global Warming. I also liked Ian Mc Ewans "Machines like Me". Literary Novelists are tackling science.

Does he understand that "Snorri...had not the gift of foresight" simply means that he was not clairvoyant? Or is he punning the double meaning of foresight?

A simpler explanation: there has been a huge explosion in scientific discovery in the last three centuries, but the humanities have not only not kept up but have actually gone backward. It used to be expected that a liberal education would including mathematics and the hard sciences, but nowadays it is considered unreasonable to expect liberal arts students to grasp math and science. Ideally, the social sciences would bridge the gap between the humanities and the hard sciences, but instead social science avoids the hard sciences as much as possible, and especially shuns the hard science most relevant to it (biology), and chooses to cluster instead with the humanities. Education needs to be redesigned from the ground up.

Here is how climate science is tested: if the computer models match the theory, then the theory is considered to be confirmed. If the models do not match the theory, then the models must be tweaked until they do.
