Fascinating essay . C.S. Lewis a very special man. He takes very difficult issues and wants talk about them. Allowing his listener to think and grow intellectually. 'GOD sent' indeed was he.

I've been listening to these for about a week, and have found them very clear and compelling. I found his statement on "ethics" to be precise and concise for the moment, regarding the political, the medical, the emergent "new ethic, to flatten the curve" et al. I find it constantly remarkable God had preceded me in everything, all the time. I find myself flabbergasted at the fact God could love mere me, sometimes, yet always the certain promise, He does.

The actual science of evolution and genetics shows two things: the vast majority of organisms are in decline from a previous state and that the ability to adapt is already present in the genetic code itself. Nothing is being added to what is already present. The world is on its way out, not on its way up, mankind included. The idea that mankind will climb the genetic ladder and obtain the ability to master and manipulate and eventually dictate his own nature, is an absurdity. This is the actual myth at work within the minds and imagination of every video gamer and pseudo-philosopher.

I've considered the sciences for almost sixty years of my sixty four, and have only just recently found C.S. Lewis, aside from having read the Narnia books to my children, and unaware of his "apologetics". I am shocked at the excellence of his reason, his ability to transcend his time, and I have absolutely agreed with you, very much "all my life". I'm retired, machinist, mechanic, electronics tech, I began on computers in 71, entering high school, two years of Kobal and Fortran, two decades working digital electronics, avionics, for aircraft, in the Marines, have worked my whole life fixing and repairing things, a talent I was born with, along with dyslexia, no one has ever answered my question, "what has ever produced something as advanced as itself, without having an internal code to direct it?", better than Mr. Lewis, stating, "of course the ovum came from the egg of a fully developed woman, complete, and the sperm came from a man of the same sort, the unique code, the design, coming from the intermingling of the directions". Almost everyone in my field has lived and believed what you so aptly bluntly deny. I'm at best, "amateur scientist", but logic is "unreasonable", it is. I've only recently, within the year, run across C.S. Lewis beyond having read him to my now adult children, I had no idea he was such a brilliant man of faith. I am deeply humbled, and amazed.

Well said. Some scientists say openly now that our future is to become something like gods, if not actual gods. The reach of this myth has only increased and become more deeply rooted as an unquestionable, universal fact, but it is an absurdity.

So many incongruent \ incoherent concepts smuggled into this one. Up, down, decline, rise, the adding of "things" (how do we delineate them?). "Ability to adapt is already present in the genetic code itself"...which code? Adaptation of what to what? In evolution "adaptation" means the miscopying of this very code filtered through the environment.

@@ianinkster2261 You said "incoherent"... Lewis is of course talking against the commonly-held and widely-held use of 'evolution' to mean 'development' or improvement. Are you claiming you haven't noticed that, or are you referring to some side-element of the talk, or what are you saying? Dr. Feynman said 'the first rule is that you mustn't fool yourself, and you are the easiest person to fool.' Jeremiah 33 says 'the heart of man is wickedly deceitful above all things, who can know it? The Lord knows the heart.' In the names of both of these folks, I ask you to be more careful. Times are hard enough.

It is both scary and reassuring that he perfectly describes modern day "progressivism" in this essay. Scary to think how long this has been ignored and grown like cancer, but reassuring that it is nothing new and we are armed with tried and true methods of fighting it.

I don’t mean to brag, but I’ve been saying something of this type for years, and I am honored to CS Lewis was the one who said it first. Atheistic Evolution, and not Christianized creationism, is the true comforting lie of this, and all other subsequent, generations. Through evolution, we have done away with our need for divine salvation, and replaced it with a self-made rescue from the much more easily forgivable sin of stupidity. We have seen the fallen Angel transform into the rising Ape, and have celebrated his elevation to the heights of intellectual glorification, rather than mourn his dissent from a spiritual enlightenment and personal relationship with God. We did not lose our souls, they were never in any place to be found to begin with.

Space and Time are the problem. We perceive Time serially but God created Time and is outside of it. that is , what is of immense age to us is NOW . Evolution would be a matter of change over time special creation would be one act or short series of acts. in Time. The perspective hinges on whether God is outside of Time and acts in whart we perceive as Past Present and Future.
