Hi Everyone, just to put you at ease this product is backed by a lifetime guarantee from C.S. Osborne, please also look at the videos for the 86 & 86a which are comparatively easier to use. The No. 84 has some very specific functions and does take some getting used to. Hopefully this video will help anyone who is struggling!

hi. I am to choose between the 84 and the 86A. I will be using it to split strips up to 82mm wide, to achieve precisions of of 0.6mm and of 0.8mm. Which one do you think would suit me more?

I have a vintage 84 splitter that I used back in the '80s, usually just to skive the ends of belts and harness straps. I recently got restarted in leather work and am putting the splitter back to work again. It does have a flaw: The locking stop is broken and should be replaced or welded. Does anyone know where to gets parts for this machine?

I think this is a case of people thinking their a craftsman and actually being a craftsman. It’s a simple machine to use if you know what your doing.

The one of these that I bought was awful as you know and went back, would not personally recommend it to anyone to be honest it was extremely badly made for the price.

I remember you had issues with yours Ian and you ended up with another make. I have been using mine for years and the three further ones I got for the videos all worked fine, as the videos show. Hope your getting on with the new one ok though.

Glad to know that I'm not the only one having problems with this splitter...kept mine though.

Has the video helped to resolve the issues you were having with it?

Unfortunately not. Whenever I split something about 10cm wide, it usually looks like an hourglass... But sometimes it works.

At 8.47 you seen me doing this very thing with no distortion to the leather, are you splitting the same way?
