A one seat ride down to portland would be amazing. Right now on the weekends it is a big hassle.

It would be amazing. We can find the funding, I would be surprised if the state doesn't want to pitch in as it would greatly improve truck travel times on I-5

How much did the commissioners want to pay for the service? I'm looking for context. Yes, 6 Million is a lot of money, but how much doe they THINK it should cost?

Why is Vancouver so against this? The traffic from Vancouver to Portland and back is absolutely atrocious and this would probably help for those who can utilize it.

4:00 "Clark County voters have a long and arguably proud tradition of rejecting light rail..." Such a stupid thing to be proud of. The same people who complain and whine the loudest and most incessantly about traffic are the same people who fight tooth and nail against any kind of public transit expansion or improvement. The hypocrisy and the demand to have it both ways are absolutely mind numbing.

People who hate light rail or high-speed rail must love being stuck in traffic for hours!! If you work in Downtown Portland or Beaverton and live in Clark County; you must be a fool for not supporting rail

In the 80s and 90s, Clark County voted down bringing MAX into Vancouver via the I-205 Bridge, which was constructed with light rail easements already in place. Clark County was stupid then, being convinced that having a MAX hub on the east side of Vancouver would kill downtown Vancouver, and voting against the final funding to expand Vancouver and the area. Downtown Vancouver is still pretty much a mess, with or without MAX being there. A new I-5 bridge will not help the commuter situation, because there will never be enough room for the daily vehicle traffic, and Americans on the whole are selfish and will never give up their precious cars and trucks for efficient light rail service. This is what they want. This is what they get. Now, we all get to hear them whine and moan, as they realize their self-inflicted dumbness is hurting everyone, including themselves.

Until "Crime-Met" returns to being "Tri-Met", most people feel safer commuting in their cars and trucks. Light rail is taxi service for dopers, homeless, screwballs, and gangbangers. Paying customers (and the Feds) subsidize the freeloaders. Install turnstiles and armed security, then mass transit will become more viable. Get rid of the troublemakers.

Clark county could always just join Trimet’s transit district and pay a 0.8% payroll tax instead of a 0.9% sales tax + high capacity transit tax! Savings!

You’re going to tear down a bunch of downtown Vancouver and then just leave a freeway headed north of town. And not include rail into Vancouver. If you’re not going to include rail transit into Vancouver, just build three lanes each way.

There's already direct train service from downtown Vancouver to downtown Portland, it would benefit from frequent service (at least during peak hours). Amtrak.

@kennychad2821

Just slow down the frequency to like every 12-18 min, like the other rail lines, 6 min. is silly. I'm excited for the extension into Vancouver, it will be good for commuters and businesses as the area grows. They should also look into a ferry system from the new Vancouver waterfront to the downtown Portland waterfront. All of these transportation systems will benefit both cities for growth, tourism, and commerce into the future.
@dfor
@dfor 17 күн бұрын
When it is first extended it is going to only be every 15 minutes. The 7.5 minute frequency is part of TriMet's Forward Together 2.0 plan which also includes 7.5 minute frequency on the Blue Line and building the SW Corridor as a yellow line extension. So the 7.5 minutes would be Vancouver to Tualatin and the Orange line would be separated into its own single line Milwaukie to Union Station. As it stands right now without the SW corridor and the rail yard that is included in that construction, there isn't enough space in the current two rail yards to store enough train cars to run that many trains.

Feels like it. The congestion there causes consistent delays and acts as a first come first serve basis. There should've been a tunnel for the lines east of the river going downtown.
@joshhancock3163
@joshhancock3163 17 күн бұрын
Yes. I was surprised they mentioned 6 to 7 minutes frequencies because the steel bridge doesn't have the capacity for that kind of frequency. I know higher frequencies will encourage more ridership, but the yellow/orange line is the lowest ridership max line currently. Seems quite ambitious to increase frequency
@Greatgastly1
@Greatgastly1 16 күн бұрын
Yes, but in the long term (2040s) trimet will build a tunnel from Loyd center to Goose Hollow, bypassing the bridge and allowing for faster more frequent trains

We already have a one seat ride to Downtown Portland, it is called the Express Bus. It is cheaper to operate, faster and more flexible than TRI--MET's boondogle. Scrap the train and extend the Vine on a dedicated HOV Lane.

If all parties ever agree upon the CRC design, it will be too expensive to build. Understandably, the Coov rejected light rail, compared to bus transit, MAX is a crime magnet.

Vancouver has observed the problems with light rail. Its expensive, not flexible, and minus HUGE government subsidies a financial drain. Nothing happens in a vacuum. With transit ridership declining across the country and our national debt at 36 trillion dollars, this is not a "need". This is a "want". STOP SPENDING MONEY WE DO NOT HAVE and build a reasonably priced basic bridge for 2 billion dollars less (that is what light rail is projected to cost).

Who could blame them I've only seen a drunk bus driver like twice only one time he was driving the second time was about 15 years ago when I heard this person standing up the front of the bus talking to the driver about how it was that C-Tran was going to leave a lot of money on the table probably undoubtedly because they didn't want to build a replacement I-5 bridge that is not going to have one extra Lane of traffic and all the craziness that goes on in Portland we'll be going on in downtown Vancouver no I don't think they want that if you ride a bus at certain hours you're taking your life in your own hands I use TriMet you always have to be worried just on buses when you've got a train it's a different situation it's worse often because there is no one discouraging someone from smoking Fentanyl or do anything whatsoever I myself I just pretend it's not happening now once they change the law about the drugs it was strange because a lot of the people who were just smoking fentanyl at the bus stop all the sudden G we can kind of hide I would not want to be near someone smoking fentanyl I would not ever try to tell them they really shouldn't be smoking Fentanyl
